Jobs- what do you do, what state and do you enjoy it? - 01-07-2008

Hi all. Thought I'd ask out of curiosity. It is a difficult time to be in the automotive engineering discipline here in Detroit, thus I do not enjoy it as every day I go to work, it could be my last. Many layoff's in 2007 has created a industry of very nervous people. It might be time for a change of careers or state of residence. Need to work in order to keep my cigar habit thriving. So what are you all doing out there?

My spider senses are tingling.

Scripting software installs and helping to develop computer standards for a major player in the banking industry. Located in N.C. Yes, I enjoy it.

My position could also be sent overseas to save money, but with over 10 years in the company they would have to give me 6 months severance if anything happened.

I recently earned my Business Analyst certification from a well-known university, just in case. They may be able to send 'geek' jobs overseas to save money, but the people who organize, analyze and prioritize projects must be on site and available for meetings.

I'm MIS (Manager of Information Systems) for a medium sized business in the Houston area. Basically if it breaks in a chem/petro plant, my company repairs it. Our newest division is turbine repair and with all the expansions we've got going on, I'm up to my eyeballs in alligators on a regular basis...

But you know what, I don't even think I would trade it for retirement.

I love my job and the challenges...

I work in television and film production. I really love my job and the company I work for. I am also an independant filmmaker/editor/producer on the side. My day to day job is what pays the bills and enables me to make the films I really want to make.

Military. Cavalry Officer currently assinged to Fort Hood, TX (known as The Great Place!)

I'm with ya on that! It's strange to love the job and count the days to retirement at the same time. The people I meet and the friends I've made are probably the biggest draw.

I work for a small town as a public servant. It is OK but I may want to change locations after awhile.

Step up to the Mike

I'm the assistant controller for a large private real estate development company in Northeastern PA. It's ok - it pays the bills.

I'm a student right now but in 2 years I'll be graduating and hopefully doing production work for corporations (in order to fund the films that I wand to make for myself) I just bought my own camera (that's where my budget for cigars went...) so right now I'm doing some freelance work around the chicago area.

I'm a film student... check out my youtube page!

Is there a sign-up sheet for this somewhere?

I am a counterman (parts professional, ASE certified) for NAPA. It was just a job to get to keep the bills paid, the monotony drives me nuts and the customers piss me off with their ignorance/stupidity (they want my advice on whats wrong and then argue with me about it, etc.) I have to find another job that allows me to use my mind. I am also planning on going back to the seminary and finishing that up, to be ordained in the United Church of Christ (I'm ordained in a non denominational Christian church, but they are not in communion with the UCC so I need some more schooling)

CI can eat my ass, I'm not special enough to get chosen to buy Cigarfest tickets.
