Don't Do This - 2 Weeks Ago

Okay, so I'm one of those guys that scoff when people talk about how a strong cigar makes their head spin and that they need to have a good meal beforehand, etc, etc.

So, today, I have a client meeting about 2 1/2 hours from my house. I generally don't smoke on my way down to the meeting as some people are sensitive to tobacco smoke, but I do like to light up on the way back.

So, had breakfast this morning of a couple of pieces of toast and headed down for my 11:00 meeting. Left the meeting at 12:00 and figured I would grab lunch closer to home.

I had brought two cigars with me; one of my go-to smokes, the CAO America Landmark (the biggest one in the America series) and a Camacho Triple Maduro. Made it through the CAO no problem. 'Bout half way through the Camacho, I realized what a stupid thing I had done. Fortunately the next rest area was not that far off, so I was able to get something in my stomach, but that walk from the car to the restaurant was not a pleasant one.

Oh well - Learned my lesson. Gonna make sure I do a little eating first next time.

Well done, Jim. A lesson all of us learn at one point or other.

I really enjoy your podcasts. Thanks for all the efforts you folks put into "The Mind of Men." I always learn something of interest and value.

Many thanks,
Don

Sounds like fun. I'm gonna have to get another few triple maduros. Great smokes, but like you said don't take them lightly. They will knock you around a bit.

Never tried the Triple Maduro, but I still remember how hard Litto Gomez kicked when I wasn't thinking...LGD Americano on an empty stomach...Didn't hurl, but came awfully close, and had to sit in the car and run the AC for about 20 minutes.

I've got a great cigar collection...actually, it's not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em. - Ron White

I know what you mean. They're a great smoke but you need to do a little prep work before you declare game on with one of those bad boys!

Hmm... I'd like to think I have a stomach of steel, but I don't want to be proven wrong the hard way.

I got hit by an Ashton Aged Maduro the other day, am I getting weaker with age or is this a strong smoke too? I didn't hurl, but it choked me up a bit. Oh what fun!

This meal before hand is a good point to know. I just finished a little bitty CAO, and do in fact feel a bit lightheaded. Why? Possibly because of no lunch. Hmmm.

been there....done that....have the T-shirt... - 2 Weeks Ago

Had an Illusione on an empty stomach a month or so ago at Fumare in Reno. Had also burnt two cigars earlier that day, DOUBLE my normal intake of a single stick per day.

Had to get a Dr. Pepper to get some sugar in the system. Sat on the couch in the smoking area, staring at the wall for several minutes. No fun.

We've all done it.

silly boys

The other day this guy asks me what lines I rep.. I tell him and he says he never tried the Africa, but he loves maduros. So I give him one. Ummmmm.....he's not talking to me right now. 1st comment was "oh way smooth..I like it" 15 mins later it was "You son of a....." He was a bit too eh....unable to get up ... at that point I quickly left.
