The cap was split

I think I am the first of the group that participated in the box split of these Scorpions so I will post my thoughts first.
Those of you not in the loop, about half of this box had split caps which appear to be somewhat dry or wrapped a little too snug before set to age. The one I smoke this evening was one with a split cap. This problem was alleviated with the cut of the head. The cigar had a fairly generic tobacco smell as I smelled the wrapper. The overal construction was very nice with some very slight veins and fairly firm. There was one soft spot about two inches up from the foot. The prelight draw was very easy with a slight tingle throughout the mouth. The light was very easy and the burn was extremely even. The taste I picked up was very reminicent of the Punch Rare Corojo. Some nice spice and good flavor. It started with a medium body and about 1/4 of the way into the cigar it picked up some punch. As I hit the half way point I really started to get hit hard and had to get some orange juice to help with the sweats I was experiencing. It has been a long time since I had a cigar hit as hard as this one did and I had to call it a night. I didn't have a real heavy dinner so that might have been a contributing factor.
Overall, I'm not sure at this time it warrants the $12.00 that it is selling for, but it does pack that Camacho punch. I don't think I'll pass a final judgement until I have a chance to load down on a good dinner and light up another. At this time I rated it a 6.8 on the ICRS scale but look forward to another smoke.

I would not reccomend this cigar at this time for the price. It def lost some points in that.
Overall a prtetty looking cigar. Good construction. Strong. Very spicy. I tend to get hints of complexity under the spice which is too strong for other flavors to fully blossom.
In my opinion this cigar will or at least can be a much better smoke in time. I have 2 more and will return to it in 6 months.
I also have another cigar that has very similar band where it says 11/18 where this one says Scorpion. I will smoke that cigar and see if it is the same or very similar or has a different flavor from the Scorpion. That review with the close-up of the 11/18 label to come later.

Pros:

Very Nice Flavor
|
|
Cons:

Burn Issues
|
|
Scent of Wrapper: Somewhat spicy.
Appearance: Nice construction, this one did not have a split cap.
Draw: Very easy draw.
Strength: Full-bodied.
Burn: Has some burn issues with this stick. Required several touch-ups.
Heat on fingers and in mouth: Remaining relatively cool throughout.
The Camacho Scorpion is very nice looking cigar. The cigar is constructed well. The flavor was full from the start and only intesified. The draw was very good. I had some issues with the burn as it required touch-ups. Overall a very enjoyable cigar, but I am not sure it is deserving of its $12.00 price.
I have two more sticks and will revisit them after a nice nap in the humidor.

Camacho Scorpion
Perfecto
6”x 48x 54x48
Honduran puro, corojo wrapper
Note: a couple weeks ago I smoked a Camacho Corojo 11/18 which is very similar to the Scorpion so I will be making a lot of comparisons. The Scorpion is basically (but not exactly) an aged version of the 11/18.

ATMOSPHERE: Smoked after a large breakfast paired with iced tea and DWSC on my iPod.
PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: Fruity (almost cherry) and hay scents from the wrapper. Mild spice scent from foot, like peppercorns.
Appearance: Absolutely flawless corojo wrapper. Reddish-caramel brown color. Very few visible veins. Beautiful silver, black and gold leaf wrapper. Did not have the extra band on the foot like the 11/18.

Feel: Not much give when squeezed.
Pre-light draw: Very nice! Slightly sweet and fruity with a hint of unusual pepper (similar to white pepper).
SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Wow, what a complex cigar! It’s taste to start reminded me a lot of a good fruit salsa: acidic (from tomatoes), fruity, and spicy (from peppers) all at the same time. Initially exhaling through the nose brought out more of the pepper flavors..similar to the way white pepper or horseradish effects me. About a 1/3 of the way through it developed some leather and savory spice (nutmeg?). About half way through I noticed a different type of pepper (black peppercorn) and it became fruitier with almost a cherry flavor. At this point I got more of a straw flavor through by exhaling through the nose. Too much going on to describe accurately!
Strength: Full-bodied but very smooth! Not as strong and harsh as the 11/18 and some other Camachos. In the last 1/3 I got a slight feeling in my stomach but it wasn’t too strong.
Feeling: Good resistance to chewing and nice peppery flavor from the wrapper.
Scent of smoke: Began as a sweet cocoa smell with a hint of burning wood (hickory). As it went on I started to get some of the scents you would get from cooking with spicy chili peppers.
Heat: None at all on the fingers or mouth.
Draw & Burn: This was the one minor weakness of this cigar. The draw was a little tight and there could have been a bit more smoke. The burn was a little uneven and required a couple corrections. I had the same problem I had with the 11/18 in that the burn got a little bad when it hit the fat part of the perfecto…this time it started to tunnel a bit. But I got it corrected and there was no harshness after relighting.

Finish: Medium to full in length with a nice acidic/peppery flavor and a hint of a tangy fruit.
OTHER:
Ash: Grey, slightly flaky ash that held well.
Duration: This was a very slow burning cigar that gives you money’s worth in terms of duration. I smoked it down to about 1.5” it just over an hour and a half…I would have gladly nubbed it if I had more time.
CONCLUSION: This is a fantastically complex cigar with a lot of wonderful flavors that are constantly changing. This was easily the best corojo I have ever had. It was much less harsh and much smoother as compared to the 11/18. And the strength was not overpowering. The extra ageing seems to work wonders on this cigar! The $12/stick makes it something that I could not afford to smoke on a regular basis but when I am looking for something really special I would splurge on one of these. And you definitely get your money’s worth in terms of smoking time because it burns so slow. The burn issues were a bit of a disappointment (are all perfectos this bad?) but didn’t take away from the amazing flavor.
FINAL RATING: 9.1/10
(Note: I rated the 11/18 a 6.3/10)
Cheers!
