Pros:

very nice construction and wrapper

Cons:
|
flavor was bitter, burn was uneven

I started off looking through the "blind" sticks to see which one grabbed my attention and came across this beautiful meduim dark wrapped slender 7 X 46 stick numbered #106. I grabbed a Gatorade and headed outside.
I was looking this over and it seemed to have very nice construction and a nice aroma, This was a smooth and just a little oily wrapper. tis one had a double cap. There were no soft spots on this and seemed it would be a tight draw. I punched this one as I do with alot of the smaller ring guage sticks. There was a little bit of tobacco which came out after the punch. The prelight draw seemed a little tight and restricted. I tasted alot of cedar and some toasted wood.
I toasted the foot and lit her up. It took a while to get this to light because of the draw. I finally got it going after a little massaging of the stick to loosen the tobacco up. When I got it going good, I got a very bitter taste almost like dried lemon peel with some earthyness and lots of spice. These flavors did not mingle too well. It may need some age on it to let the flavors mellow out. This seemed to be a med-full flavored stick. The burn was not good. Within 2 inches, I had to touch it up twice and it started to tunnel. After about 3 inches the bitterness mellowed down somewhat. I never really noticed any heat coming down through the stick, maybe because of the tight draw. I really thought this would be an awesome stick by looking at it. I would like to try this stick with some age on it as I mentioned before. I am giving this a 5.25 on the ICRS scale. It gets this score because the flavor was not good, but construction was very nice.

Relight twice and uneven burn on one side the entire time

Blind review. 7 x 46 Lonsdale.
ATMOSPHERE: Smoked outside in the evening paired with fresh Alabama air.
PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: Pleasant smell. A little sweet, very nice pre-smoke smell.
Appearance: Smooth and lovely. Long and thin, reminded me of a classic old school Cuban.
Feel: Solid. Nicely packed. Nicely oiled and ready to smoke.
Pre-light draw: Not much on the palate, a slight sweet taste.
SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: A medium sweet taste, very nice. Got a little bitter near the end.
Strength: Medium, but nicely done.
Feeling: Long and proud, this cigar was in great shape.
Scent of smoke: Urbal (I have no idea what that means, but it was THEE word that popped into my head). My wife hated it, so this must be a good cigar
Heat: Very little, next to none!
Draw & Burn: Good burn, but not great. One side kept lagging behind an dneed my help 4 times or so. I had to relight twice.
Finish: A little bitter near the end, but still nice.
OTHER:
Ash: Good ash, solid in construction!
Duration: Smoked until about 1” remaining in roughly 1 hour 40 minutes.
CONCLUSION: Nice cigar. The flavor was solid throughout, I would do one of these again!
FINAL RATING: 7.5 - I like it!

Blind Tasting Panel Cigar #106
Lancero 7x46”
ATMOSPHERE: Smoked on a beautiful father’s day morning on my patio paired with an iced tea and DWSC on my iPod.

PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: Hints of cedar and little bit of sweetness. Just mild tobacco from foot.
Appearance: Chestnut brown, rough-looking wrapper – lots of crack and a few patches. Interesting shape…you do not see many lanceros anymore! I have heard several places that some cigar makers consider this to be the perfect vitola. Small pigtail on the head. This cigar was in pretty rough shape. The wrapper was seriously unraveling and required several saliva repairs throughout the smoke. There were major cracks near the foot so I had to cut off about a ½” before lighting.
Feel: Very hard and dry.
Pre-light draw: Not much of anything.
SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Mostly leather with very small hints of sweetness and cedar. Pretty nice.
Strength: Mild to medium.
Feeling: Very hard to chew…like holding a stick in the mouth. Wrapper was kind of sour. Not enjoyable to keep in mouth.
Scent of smoke: Mostly leather…not very strong. Did not produce a very good amount of smoke.
Heat: None.
Draw & Burn: Draw was quite tight but burn was relatively even.

Finish: Very dry leather…needed to drink a lot when smoking.
OTHER:
Ash: Lightly grey, slightly flaky ash.
Duration: Smoked to about half way point in about 40 minutes because I wasn’t really enjoying it and wrapper was unraveling.
CONCLUSION: This cigar had some nice leather flavors that reminded me a lot of a Padron X000 or RP Vintage 1992, although much less rich. I was disappointed by the lack of smoke. This cigar was in very rough shape which took away a lot from the smoking experience so I would like to try another one that was in better shape to see if the flavors were a bit richer. I would not recommend/buy this unless it was very value priced because the Padron and RP deliver similar flavors but much better.
FINAL RATING: 4.4/10
Cheers!

What a freaking great cigar.
Fine, I will review it. I happen to love what I call "vintage vitolas" This is a size not popular among many brand s these days and when you find them they can be a real gem. This cigar had near flawless construction. Great pigtail cap, and a beautiful wrapper. I cut this up and the pre-light was out of this world. All sorts of cedar and spice.mmmmmmmm. The first third was great. Perfect draw and burn. Lots of nut and wood notes. The second third developed into this wonderfuly complex mix of dry spice and bright floral and wood notes. The burn and draw are even better. The last third is marked by lots of deep spice and almost a cocoa flavor.
Overall this is a great stick....I WANT MORE.....I would pay up to $9-$10 for this.

|
Pre-smoke
Scent of Wrapper: Earthy, hint of spice
Scent at Foot: Same
Wrapper: Veiny and slightly oily
Feel: Somewhat firm with a hard spot in the center
Tongue: Earth, tobacco
Flavor on Draw: Musty, tingle near the back of the tongue
Smoke
Taste: Black pepper, tannins
Flavor Changes: N/A
Strength: Full
Scent of Smoke: Bold
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: N/A
Draw: Tight
Finish: Medium, dark, earthy
Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: Didn’t last long enough to really judge.
This cigar held a lot of promise, but I never found out what it really had in store. About an inch and a half in, it went out and several attempts to relight proved futile. I didn’t gather enough information to give a proper review, so I have to rate this as “Incomplete.”

Pros:

Nice draw, pleasant mild flavor.
|
|
Cons:
|
Some burn issues, pulled a stem out of the cigar.
|
|
This was a lancero in a natural wrapper. The wrapper and foot had a mild smell with just a hint of sweetness. It's cap appears to have been twisted. It's a nice touch. I cut the cap and it came off neatly and the draw was good. I did notice a stem in cigar so I pulled it out. It was about 4 inches in length.
First Third: It had a nice mellow smoke and the flavor was that of Nutty Creaminess. There was a sweet component to the taste. The burn is a little uneven.
Second Third: The nutty flavors are stronger now and the sweetness has toned down nicely. I am having a canoeing problem.
Third Third: The same as the second third, but the canoeing is getting out of hand.
Overall: The stem in the cigar and the canoeing were annoying, but the flavor of the cigar was quite nice. I tend to like a stronger cigar so I am surprised that I enjoyed this mild to medium cigar. Good for a beginner smoker.

Pros:
|
great flavor, beutifull looking vitola
|
|
Cons:
|
burn issues
|
|
Pre-smoke
Scent of Wrapper: subtle spiciness and woody aromas
Scent at Foot: more of a woody scent
Wrapper: brown color, lots of tiny veins, oily, smooth, pig-tail cap
Feel: no soft sots, construction looks great
Tongue: not much here; probably soft spices
Flavor on Draw: Pleasant woody aroma
Smoke
Taste: woody, leathery, soft spices, ranging from peppery to sweet
Flavor Changes: started with more peppery but changed to more sweet spices
Strength: Smack down medium
Scent of Smoke: gentle not owerpowering
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: N/A = good
Draw: perfect
Finish: first was acrid, but became smooth
Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: burn problems, and ash that is too flaky
Just a side note for those who haven't had experience with this vitola before. You just can't rush with this cigar. It will not produce as much smoke as a bigger gage and smoking it slow will prevent the harsh notes on the finish.
Now it did have multiple burn problems: had to do a lot of touch ups; it went out several times after half point. So the intyial pre-light feeling that the construction is good was very much a false statement.
Overall I enjoyed this cigar a lot except the constrcution issues which made it loose 2 points. I rated thios cigar a 5.5 but would have been a 7.5 if not for the construction.

Pros:
|
Nice draw, nice appearance
|
|
Cons:
|
Burn problems and staying lit
|
|
Pre-smoke
Scent of Wrapper: Fairly generic tobacco scent
Scent at Foot: Hay - almost like a clean horse stall
Wrapper: Chocolatey brown color, small veins, light sheen
Feel: Fairly firm from top to bottom. Small soft spot in the center.
Tongue: Very slight tingle but not much.
Flavor on Draw: Slight hay flavor but no real standouts.
Smoke
Taste: Almost a bittersweet chocolate taste that turned into a peppery burnt coffee flavor.
Flavor Changes: About halfway through I picked up a minty sensation.
Strength: Medium to full
Feeling: Slight tingle in the back of the throat.
Scent of Smoke: Fairly average
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: Nothing substantial.
Draw: Pretty decent
Finish: Fairly bitter and harsh
Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: The cigar lit very easily but the burn was extremely uneven. The other negative was that it extinguished itself fairly quickly.
I tried to take Rob's suggestion about smoking it slowly but the cigar went out if I left it too long (a minute or two).
I think the cigar has potential and after reading the other reviews, it definitely seems hit or miss... might be a QC issue or something like that.
I loved the pigtail and the construction was nice but it underperformed.

Pros:
|
Wonderful spicy taste
|
|
Cons:
|
Had to smoke faster to keep burn going.
|
|
Scent of Wrapper: Stong scent of cedar
Scent at Foot: Spicy Cedar
Wrapper: Nice pigtail cap. Dark natural to Colorado claro color. Fairly smooth with some small veins. A few slightly oily areas, but overall a little dry looking.
Feel: Feels firm from head to foot.
Tongue: Somewhat tingly on the tongue and with a delayed hit of spiciness
Flavor on Draw: Spiciness with a little cedar. Spice hits on the back of my throat
Taste : The first few puffs provided a spicy tea taste. After that cedar tones with plenty of wonderful spice. There were times when the spice subsided a little, and other times when the spice was more pronounced. Towards the end of the cigar I picked up more of the woody cedar taste.
Strength: I would classify this one as full strength and seemed to get a little stronger towards the end.
Feeling: Very happy with this cigar experience
Scent of Smoke: Hard to pick up as the breeze was blowing the smoke away from me. From what I could tell, it was pleasant.
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: Only picked up a slight bit of heat at the very end of the cigar
Draw: The draw was a little firm, but not tight. I would say this one had a “deliberate” draw.
Finish: Very enjoyable cedar and smoky aftertaste
Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: I noticed I had to smoke this cigar faster than my normal sized cigar (robusto) in order to keep it from going out. I attribute this to the smaller ring gauge. Otherwise, this was an excellent cigar. Overall I would rate this a 7.8 and on the CL scale an 8.

Love the shape, good blend.
|
|
Cons:
|
Ash kept dropping off, made a mess
|
|
Scent of Wrapper: Very Light Wood
Wrapper: Tightly veined toothy oiled medium brown wrapper (cameroon?), nice touch w/ pig tail at the end.
Feel: solid the whole length
Flavor on Draw:Cinnamon style spice on the pre draw.
Taste : Spicy rich woodiness to start with, then stayed rich woody with some leather complexities.
Strength: Med-at times full.
Feeling: Love the lancero shape, nice stick good smoke.
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: none detected, stayed cool the whole way.
Draw: Nice, not too easy and not hard, just right.
Finish:A rich tabac taste, with backdrop of anise and cedar.
Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: The ash dropped every 1/2" which I thought this might have been a mixed filled stick. But the flavor / burn / construction were very good and would smoke again.

This cigar started off really nice. Smelled like rose and clove. The wrapper was a nice brown. Felt really good to the touch. The cigar lit up real nice was a very smooth draw tasted really good. Than about half way through it started to remind be of a bad cigarette. I could not get through the whole thing so this is why I give this cigar a 3.

Did Not Like Taste or Aroma

Nice looking medium dark wrapped, constructed well and lit well. Had a smooth oily wrapper and noticed the Double Cap. No soft spots on this and seemed it would be a good draw. Guillotine Cutter worked well and started my tasting. No tobacco on the tongue and noticed woodsy, earthy taste. No restriction on prelight. Confusing taste of cedar, wood, and grass—I did not find this amusing. Did not like. This seemed to be a medium flavored stick. The burn was O K but not like I would expect from a 3-$7 cigar. Half way through it seem too intense but just did not work for me. No heat coming, could not tell because of the taste. From the looks of this stogie it appeared to be a good smoke-but was not. I give this a 5.00 on the ICRS scale. The flavor was not good, but construction was very nice.

Cigar review: Cigar 106
ATMOSPHERE: In the garage on a sunny day.
PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: Peppery.
Appearance: Leathery brown wrapper finshed with a pigtail cap.
Feel: Wrapper smooth to the touch.
Pre-light draw: Hint of spice and almonds.
SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Leather and peaberry coffee flavors with a hint of spice. Transitions into some nutty flavors, cashews and almonds, a third of the way into the cigar.
Strength: Medium-bodied.
Feeling: The cigar has a bit of a still-wet kind of feel to it.
Scent of smoke: Floral with a thin, white appearance.
Heat: None. Burning very cool. Well-ventilated.
Draw & Burn: Draw is a bit uneven, but is ventilating very well.
Finish: Smooth with fruity undertones.
OTHER:
Ash: Loose and flaky.
Duration: 1.2 hours.
CONCLUSION: A well-constructed cigar with lots of complexity but little depth. Enjoyable but puzzling flavors.

Pros:

Medium Flavor, good amount of smoke.
|
|
Cons:
|
Wrapper was slightly flawed, wanted to unravel. Split in the middle. Cigar went out several times.
|
|
PRESMOKE
Scent of Wrapper: Very slight sweet tobacco scent coming from the wrapper. Almost no scent from the foot.
Scent at Foot: Similar to wrapper, but almost too faint to pick up.
Appearance: Lancero shape, 7 inches x ~42 ring.
Wrapper: A little bit rough. Bumpy with a lot of veins. The texture of the wrapper itself is fairly smooth, but the veins and the way it is wrapped gives it an uneven bumpy appearance. There is a very slight sheen to the wrapper. It is a fairly thin wrapper, and consistent in color - medium brown.
Feel: Consistent from head to foot, hard with no soft spots.
Tongue: No tingle. Mildly sweet taste.
Flavor on Draw: Sensed something, maybe some wood. Pre-light draw was too restricted. Massaged the head a little between my thumb and fingers and managed to loosen it up quite a bit.
SMOKE
Lit up quickly. Got a lot of Cameroon-like spice on light up. Seemed to be a medium to medium full flavor cigar.
1st Third:
Taste: Cameroon-like spice has pretty much gone away. Cedar and oak flavor. Sort of a monotone flavor.
Strength: The flavor is a fairly solid medium. You definitely know you are smoking something, but the flavor is kind of flat and monotone.
The feeling (or nicotine strength) is mild. I did not notice any nicotine effects.
Scent of the Smoke: A little on the heavy side. Not aromatic, but not offensive in any way.
Heat on fingers and mouth: Nothing observed.
Draw: The draw continues to be overly deliberate for my taste. I am having to work a little too hard to draw on the cigar. Cigar was quick to go out, requiring several relights.
Finish: Short and crisp finish. Finish does not linger very long.
Other: A one inch split in the wrapper has appeared at the very center of the cigar. Ash was quick to drop off. Hard to get more than about a 3/4 inch ash.

Pre-smoke
Scent of Wrapper: nothing dominated
Scent at Foot: same here-I couldn’t pick up anything specific
Appearance:
Cute little pigtail-very smooth attractive wrapper
Feel: inconsistent
Tongue: faintly sweet
Flavor on Draw: slight sweetness on the draw
Smoke
Taste : First ½ inch was bitter then mellowed a bit. Quickly smoothed out to a pleasant smoke.
Flavor Changes:
Strength: medium to full.
Feeling: I liked the feel of this size cigar and it produced lots of smoke
Scent of Smoke:
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: none
Draw: nice-very smooth
Finish: long finish
Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: I liked the size-my first lancero. I usually like a larger rg but it felt good in the hand.
The flakey ash was a drawback and half way through I started to have burn issues. I couldn’t keep it lit. This knocks down the score for me a lot. I hate having to relight .

PRE-SMOKE:
Wrapper scent: hay
Foot scent: light tobacco smell
Appearance: smooth brown, slightly oily wrapper, several veins are noticable
Feel: spongy
Pre-light draw: Hint of spice and almonds.
SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Leather and cedar
Strength: Medium-bodied.
Feeling: provided an enjoyable smoke
Scent of smoke: sweet smell to it... a little cedary
Heat: None.
Draw & Burn: had some problems getting it to burn evenly repeatedly had to touch up
Finish: had a nutty after taste at first that dispersed quickly, after the first half it turned leather and pepper and hung around a lot longer on the tongue
CONCLUSION: A nice looking cigar that started out well in taste got better taste wise but the burn problems need working on.

Pre-smoke
Scent of Wrapper: light scent of hay / barnyard
Scent at Foot: about the same but lighter
Wrapper: veiny brown - cracked at head and foot
Feel: harder at the head, softer at the foot, had a nice feel to it IMO
Tongue: no tingle, bit of a spicy sweet taste
Flavor on Draw: very tight, some sweet notes and regular tobacco
Smoke
Taste: spice with good woodsy flavors, also during the middle it was the first time i can confidently say i tasted leather in a cigar
Flavor Changes: very spicy right off the bat with some good woody flavors, in the middle i got some good leather and sweetness
Strength: i'd say full right away until the spice calmed down to a medium
Feeling: this was my first cigar in over a week so it definately hit the spot, i was very ready to smoke this one!!
Scent of Smoke: slight breeze made this hard to pick up... it wasn't too strong though
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: none until the end when it started burning a bit hot
Draw: a bit tight but nothing near as bad as the prelight draw
Finish: spice and leather
Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: solid ash - thick smoke, great for smoke rings, this was a very godo cigar IMO and i would smoke more, no burn problems until the last 2 inches when i was about done anyway so i didn't subtract any points for that
