Description: Camacho is proud to announce the Liberty Serie 2006 11/18 cigar. As with each issue, this blend is also different. This time it was Julio Eiroa who developed this blend. He used a Cameroon wrapper and some of that Pelo de Oro Cuban tobacco we had from the old DWG Cigar Company in Lima, Ohio. This tobacco has been around for over 44 years!! The rest of the blend, we can not tell you about... This newest box design, by Mr. Dylan Austin, represents the 13 original colonies of the United States. Furthermore, each Camacho Liberty 2006 is an 11/18 shaped cigar and is packed in an individually numbered and hand screen-printed coffin.

Pros: A superb cigar in all aspects. Wish I had more of them!
Cons: Wrapper is more prone to crack if not careful

Well, I wanted a nice cigar to start off the long weekend and decided to smoke a cigar I had saved from last year, to complete the task. I chose a Camacho Limited Edition 11/18 Liberty 2006 cigar. It is a numbered, Ltd. Ed. individually coffin-kept cigar - this one was 6,777 out of a total of 40,000 cigars made. This series is an annual series especially made for this time of the season by Christian and Julio Eiroa of Camacho Cigars. This year's cigar has a Cameroon wrapper and sports some 44 year old Cuban pelo de oro tobacco that the Eiroa's purchased from the DWG cigar company in Lima Oh some years ago. The blend is kept secret and this is NOT a Cuban puro by any stretch, but a rarity nonetheless. I really enjoyed a 2004 Liberty that I smoked last year, so let's see what this cigar is all about. I accompanied this cigar with my trusty dog Sonny and an apropos Sam Adams lager...

Following is my ICRS review with pictures of my July 4th smoking experience.

Scent of wrapper: Sweet tobacco & hay.

Scent at foot: More hay/dry, sweet grass and some nuttiness.

Wrapper: An almost olive-colored cameroon wrapper. The wrapper was nicely wrapped on this 11/18 styled perfecto, with no soft spots at all. The danger of this particular vitola, is that it can be prone to wrapper splits due to the bulge of the cigar in the middle section... The wrapper in fact DID split after a short time, but the split was at the head of the cigar and did not creep. It was not critical at all and the cigar was not in danger of unravelling at all.

Feel: Firm with no soft spots that I could discern. A wonderful balance in the hand with this stick, it had a certain "heft" to it that made it feel quite substantial.

Tongue: I used a cigar punch on this. Taste was of wrapper, which was simple and hay-like as was aroma.

Flavor on Draw: Very sweet, grassy draught before lighting. Super draw with the cigar punch I used - nice!.

Taste: Started out as expected, with a grassy, hay taste and a bit of pepper that faded quickly. About 1/8th of an inch in, the cigar started pulling all kinds of white-blue smoke and the taste was creamy, and nutty. This nutty flavor was not like anything I remember tasting before. It was more of a walnut taste that really complimented the Sam Adam's Lager I was drinking. The flavor of the cigar melded tobacco, hay, grass, walnut a tiny bit of woodiness and once in a while a taste of leather, throughout. The consistency of the taste was evident from start to finish. Wonderful!

Ash: Grey, medium density ash. Hung on well, as I had to tap it pretty hard to get it into the stinky! Nicely constructed.

Feeling: Pure, unadulterated cigar smoking pleasure! Honestly, I was expecting a nice cigar here, but this really out-performed from expectations! There was no hint of bitterness at all, right down to the nub! It was mellow as all hell, but FULL of flavor! I really could not get enough of this cigar and I wanted to enjoy hours and hours with this cigar. It was a full 1.5 hr smoke!

Scent of smoke: Very mellow and pleasing - light hay and pure tobacco aromas.

Heat on fingers and in mouth: Nope, none until I got right down to the last 1 inch.

Draw: Superb - perfect draw!

Finish: Short and crisp - nutty.

Other aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: One of my top 5 cigar smoking experiences ever! I was in the mood for a wonderful cigar and I got one! The wrapper crack took nothing away from this cigar. It was full-flavored and full bodied and smoked wonderfully. No burn issues to speak of and the strength and complexity were just what I was looking for. I got a healthy buzz after the cigar and Sam Adams, but nothing too much. I was relaxed and mellow the entire 1.5 hrs. I highly recommend smoking one of these 2005 Liberty's if you can find one locally or on the web. I give the cigar a 9.5/10!
