Description: Joya de Nicaragua Celebracion is the latest premium from the makers of Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 – one of the hottest, strongest smokes on the market. Using the same Nicaraguan grown Habana-seed fillers and binders utilized by Antano, the Celebracion sports a super smooth, aged Habana-seed Criollo wrapper leaf. The end result is a complex, flavorful, medium to full-bodied cigar that’s easier on the palate than its older brother.

Pros: some nice coffee, pepper and leather flavors, even burn
Cons: unbalanced strength, delicate wrapper that cracked easily

Joya de Nicaragua Celebracion
Churchill
6.7”x 48

Nicaraguan puro

ATMOSPHERE: Smoked on a warm sunny afternoon paired with root beer and sports radio.

PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: Cocoa, coffee and some pepper from the wrapper. Light coffee aroma from the foot.

Appearance: This cigar had a bumpy, rustic, caramel brow wrapper with lots of visible seams and a very rough looking cap. The wrapper was very thin and delicate and had a few small cracks and chips.

Feel: Hard and dry to the squeeze…I was afraid of cracking the wrapper by squeezing too hard.

Pre-light draw: Some very nice spice (oregano & thyme) on the tongue after my punch cut. Mild pepper and tobacco on the draw.

SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Initially the dominant flavors were coffee and black pepper. The pepper was very strong at first (especially when expelled through the nose where it left a “horseradish-like” aftereffect and bordered on being harsh sometimes) but then calmed down after the first inch. After about the first 1/3 the dominant flavor became leather and it stayed that way for the rest of the smoke.

Strength: Started out with full flavor then changed to medium leather after the first 1/3. Strength was definitely full as I felt a little woozy and my stomach was doing some flip flops about half way through. Although, it was not quite as strong as the other JdN: the Antano.

Feeling: A little bit too hard and crunchy to chew a lot but when I did I got lots of nice pepper spice on my lips and tongue from the wrapper. Comfortable shape for hands and mouth.

Scent of smoke: This cigar produced an average amount of white smoke with a burning wood (oak) and spicy aroma.

Heat: None .

Draw & Burn: Good deliberate draw and nice even burn. No corrections were required.

Finish: Medium length the wood, spice, straw and occasionally a slight metallic flavor.

OTHER:
Ash: Salt and pepper ash that held very well.

Duration: I only smoked about 2/3 of the cigar (in about 1 hr) because I just wasn’t loving it.

CONCLUSION: This cigar has some nice coffee, pepper and leather flavors but suffers from an imbalance in terms of strength. I love very strong cigars and don’t mind at all when I feel the effects in my head and stomach but I expect these feelings to be accompanied by very full and rich flavors. The Celebracion did just not deliver in this regard..for most of the smoke the dominant flavor was medium bodied leather. To me this was just an average corojo with no real “wow factor”. I would much prefer the Camacho Corojo or Padilla Achilles. This construction was good overall but the wrapper was very delicate. I would not recommend this cigar.

FINAL RATING: 5.9/10

Cheers!

Rob
