Pros: some nice sweet flavors, good construction
Cons: too mild at times, short finish

Illusione 88
Robust
5” x 52

Nicaraguan puro

ATMOSPHERE: Smoked on a sunny morning paired with rootbeer and The Band on my iPod.

PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: Mild cedar and sweet tobacco from the wrapper. Not much aroma other than mild tobacco from the foot.

Appearance: Fairly smooth, milk chocolate brown wrapper with some visible veins and a small crack near the foot. Nice triple cap. Simple black and white band with some brown discoloration.

Feel: Good resistance to squeeze throughout.

Pre-light draw: Some very light pepper on the tongue after my punch cut. Light pepper and tobacco on draw.

SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Dominant flavors were sugar/light caramel and bread. Very mild! I did not notice anything extra when expelling the smoke through the nose and there were no noticeable flavor changes during the smoke.

Strength: Mild

Feeling: Good resistance to chew and comfortable. Slight sweetness from the wrapper but not much.

Scent of smoke: This cigar produced an average amount of brownish-white smoke with a sweet baked bread aroma.

Heat: None .

Draw & Burn: Draw was a little tight at first but loosened up at about the half way point. Pretty even burn that only required one minor correction.

Finish: Very short and mild with a light leather taste.

OTHER:
Ash: Grey/white ash that held very well.

Duration: Smoked to the final 1” in just over 1 hr.

CONCLUSION: This was a pleasant, easy-smoking cigar with some nice sweet and bready flavors. It is a cigar that could be smoked at anytime of the day but would not really stand up to strong drinks. The construction was good overall. It’s mild and sugary characteristics were not a good match with my flavor profile but if I were in the mood for a mild cigar I would try one of these again. I think this would be good for those that like milder, sweeter cigars.

FINAL RATING: 6.8/10

Cheers!

Rob
