Description: These cigars are hand-rolled from exquisite Cuban-seed ligero tobaccos grown in the Cibao Valley of the Dominican Republic, aged 8 full years, and hugged by gorgeous, dark, silky Connecticut wrappers fermented to perfection. The Perfecto shape is intriguing, a thick 60-ring perfecto that carefully tapers at both ends.

Wrapper: Connecticut - dark natural
Binder: Cameroon
Filler: Cuban-seed Dominican Ligero
Keywords: Gurkha Centurian XX

Pros: some nice pepper and honey flavors, lots of smoke
Cons: price, burn issues

Gurkha Centurian XX
Perfecto
6” x 60

Wrapper: Connecticut - dark natural
Binder: Cameroon
Filler: Cuban-seed Dominican Ligero

ATMOSPHERE: Smoked on a hot summer afternoon on my patio paired with a Miller Chill and Tool on my iPod. I was given this cigar by in a novice sampler pack I did on another cigar board over 2 year ago.

PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: I detected light wood and earth from the wrapper and mostly earth/dirt aromas after I cut the foot.

Appearance: Very nice example of a perfecto cigar. Light, caramel brown wrapper that has lots of visible seems and veins. Typical, elegant Gurkha band. Good construction overall.

Feel: Very hard and dry when squeezed.

Pre-light draw: Slight tingle and a little earth taste on the tongue after I cut the head of the cigar. Mostly basic tobacco with a little bit of pepper on the draw.

SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Fairly strong pepper flavor right from the start backed by straw and a very small amount of leather. The pepper was a bit stronger and I detected some wood flavors when expelling the smoke through my nose. This flavors were a little unbalanced as the pepper tended to mask every thing else. At about the ˝ point the cigar began to develop a very nice honey sweetness that I did enjoy.

Strength: Medium bodied overall. I did not get any head rush or feeling in my stomach despite the Double Ligero filler.

Feeling: Quite hard to chew but when I did there was a nice little bit of pepper on my lips from the wrapper.

Scent of smoke: The cigar produced a ton of grayish white smoke with mostly a light wood scent.

Heat: None at all .

Draw & Burn: The draw was slightly tight but generally good. After smoking for about 15min I realized that the burn line had already moved at all…it was a bit difficult to get the wrapper burning well. After that the burn was a bit uneven and required a few corrections.

Finish: A long finish with tingly pepper, straw, and sawdust…not unpleasant but not really that enjoyable either.

OTHER:
Ash: Flaky white/grey ash that held well despite its appearance.

Duration: Smoked to final 1” in a little over 1 hr.

CONCLUSION: This was a decent cigar that had some nice pepper throughout and an enjoyable honey flavor in the second half. Construction was good but there were some burn issues. The main flaw with this cigar is its inexplicable $12 price tag. It is definitely not worth that much in my opinion...there was nothing really interesting or intriguing about this cigar to warrant having the same MSRP as an Opus or PAM! If you are given one of these like I was definitely fire it up but I would not recommend buying them yourself.

FINAL RATING: 6/10

Cheers!

Rob
