Description: The Oliva Serie G cigars were originally named the Oliva Grand Cameroon / Maduro. The cigar blend remains the same, but boasts a whole new band and box!

Made with an authentic African Cameroon wrapper, this unique blend is medium bodied with notes of rich cedar and dark coffee. All long filler Nicaraguan fillers and binder were used to compliment the specially aged wrapper.

Pros: delcious bittersweet chocolate, leather and spice flavors; price
Cons: slight uneven burn

Oliva Serie G Maduro
4.5 x 50”, box press
Robusto

ATMOSPHERE: Smoked on an beautiful overcast morning in a park paired with root beer and some reading for work. I have smoked several of these before but finally decided to do a formal review.

PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: Very nice leather and cocoa sweetness from the wrapper. Earthy tobacco aroma from the foot.

Appearance: Smooth dark chocolate/black wrapper. Relative sharp box press. Some loose tobacco in foot. Excellent construction overall.

Feel: Good give to squeeze, consistent throughout.

Pre-light draw: No tingle after punch cut. Leather with a hint of sweetness on the draw.

SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Very nice mixture of chocolate, leather and spice. For me the chocolate alternated between bitter and sweet throughout the smoke. The spice was a peppery sensation in the back of my tongue that really got stronger when I expelled the smoke through my nose. About a 1/3 of the way in I also picked up some nice dry toast flavors. Flavors pair very well with a sweet drink.

Strength: Medium.

Feeling: Good resistance chew. Unlike a lot of box press cigars the Oliva G robusto was very comfortable in the mouth and hand. .

Scent of smoke: This cigar produced lots of creamy white smoke that smelled like baked cookies and bread with occasional hints of grass.

Heat: None at all.

Draw & Burn: Nice deliberate draw with punch cut. Slightly uneven burn that required a couple corrections.

Finish: Medium length leathery finish with a nice spicy tingle.

OTHER:
Ash: Slightly flaky grey/white ash that held well. Very interesting light brown ring near burn line (see photo). Band came off very easily during smoke.

Duration: Nubbed in about 50 min.

CONCLUSION: An excellent maduro at any price but at it’s incredible $3/stick MSRP it is right up there with the Indian Tabac Super Fuerte maduro as one of the best cigars for the money in my book. The dominant flavors were a wonderful bittersweet chocolate and leather with some peppery spice. Very good construction with only some minor burn issues. Highly recommended!

FINAL RATING: 8.4/10

Cheers!

Rob
