Peterson Gran Reserva
Churchill
6.75 x 48
African Cameroon wrapper, blend of Nicaraguan and Honduran long-leaf tobaccos.

ATMOSPHERE: Smoked on a sunny and breezy afternoon on my patio paired with root beer and DWSC.
PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: Cedar and light spice from the wrapper. Basic tobacco with a hint of cedar from the foot.
Appearance: Veiny, light chestnut brown wrapper with a slightly messy cap and a small white spot near the foot. Looked like a box press near the foot but not for rest of the cigar, seems like box press started to release during storage?

Feel: Good give when squeezed throughout.
Pre-light draw: No tingle on tongue after my usual punch cut. Light wood and basic tobacco on the draw.
SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Dominant flavors were light birch wood that verged on being papery and a very faint hint of pepper on the lips and tongue (not as much as I have come to expect from a Cameroon wrapper). There was also a hint of nice caramel sweetness that never seem to rise completely to the surface. There were no real flavor changes.

Strength: Mild
Feeling: Good resistance to chewing and a nice spicy tingle from wrapper when held in the mouth.
Scent of smoke: This cigar produced an average amount of bluish-white smoke with a very mild buttered toast aroma.

Heat: None at all .
Draw & Burn: Slight tight on the draw but OK. Relatively even burn that didn’t look great all the time but did not require correction.
Finish: Medium length papery finish with a slight peppery tingle.
OTHER:
Ash: Light grey/black ash that held well. Nice cone after ashing (see photo).

Duration: Smoked about 2/3 in a little over an hour. Wasn’t liking it enough to finish.
CONCLUSION: This cigar was much too mild for my tastes and had some paper flavors which I really do not enjoy in a cigar. The pepper and caramel sweetness were nice but were much too muted. Construction was good overall and it had a nice aroma. The Peterson Gran Reserva is a decent mild smoke (if you can still find them…I believe it is out of production now) but I would not buy one myself nor recommend it.
FINAL RATING: 5.9/10
Cheers!
