Pros: smooth creamy and leather flavors
Cons: rough appearance, tasteless on pre-light

Blind Tasting Panel #119
? x ?

ATMOSPHERE: Smoked on a sunny morning on my patio paired with iced tea and a good book.

PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: I detected leather and a very faint spice from the wrapper and just basic tobacco from the foot.

Appearance: Light brown, caramel colored, very veiny wrapper with some inconsistencies in color (especially near the head). Slightly rough looking cap.

Feel: Felt a little soft in some spots otherwise OK.

Pre-light draw: No tingle on my tongue after my punch cut. Very airy and tasteless pre-light draw. If anything it was slightly bitter.

SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Started out with a very creamy leather flavor and a faint hint of pepper at the end of the draw. The leather became a bit more rich and the pepper stronger when the smoke was expelled through the nose. After about and 1” or so I picked up a nice syrupy sweetness that mixed very well with the other flavors. Definitely enjoyable!

Strength: Medium in flavor, mild in overall strength.

Feeling: Good resistance to chewing and comfortable shape to hold in the mouth.

Scent of smoke: This cigar produced an above average amount of creamy white smoke that had a predominately pine and grass odor with a slight hint of nuttiness.

Heat: None at all.

Draw & Burn: The draw was too tight with the punch cut so I needed to do a blade cut. After that it was OK. Razor even burn throughout that did not require a single correction.

Finish: A medium-length, mouth-coating, buttery finish with leather and a nice spice. Very tasty!

OTHER:
Ash: Light grey ash with tiny ridges that held extremely well! Nice cone after ashing.

Duration: Nubbed in about 1hr and 25 min.

CONCLUSION: A very nice creamy and leathery cigar with hints of spice and sweetness. This cigar was much milder that what typical smoke but it was very flavorful and I enjoyed it a lot. The draw was a little tight but not too bad and the pre-light impressions were not that positive (but who cares as long as it smokes well!). This is a cigar I would definitely keep on hand for those rare occasions when I do feel like a milder cigar and I would recommend it to others.

FINAL RATING: 8.2/10

Cheers!

Pros: nice flavoring, good draw.
Cons: Small Burn issue

#199 was a 6 x 48 or maybe 46 cigar that I enjoyed over the weekend. Here is my review

Pre-Smoke

Sent of Wrapper: I could smell fresh cut grass on this wrapper. It was pleasant.

Sent at Foot: Some spice or peppery scents at the foot. They were very nice.

Wrapper: The wrapper was a nice brown color, but I did notice a patch at the foot of the cigar. I would say that the patch was 1/4in. by 1/8in. It was hard to notice, but the patch was slightly darker than the rest of the cigar.

Feel: The cigar was firm but there was one soft spot about 4 inches up from the foot of the cigar.

Tongue:: Very slight tingle when I placed my tongue to the cut end.

Flavor on Draw: This was a firmish draw, with a slight woodsy flavor very slight.

Smoke

Taste: Very mild hints of flavors in this one, I at first had a slight peppery flavor that was very faint. This lasted for about 1 1/4 in. Then things seemed to move into slightly bolder peppery or spice flavor profile that continued to build the more I smoked. This never really made it much past the Medium or mild flavor profile, but it did build in flavor as I smoked. Very nice.

Strength: Mild to Medium as you smoke it gets more flavorful, but never gets out of the medium category in my opinion.

Sent of smoke: Mild sent in the smoke, just a nice and mild peppery smell.

Heat on Fingers and in mouth: none noted.

Draw: I thought that the draw was firm, but not bad. The cigar still produced plenty of smoke, but was a bight tight for me.

Finish: I noted a short but creamy finish. This was a very pleasant finish.

Other aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: I had 1 small burn issue with this cigar, and I let it work it's way out. This started at the same point I noticed the patch, so I think that the patch might have been to blame. Other than that I thought that the construction was really good.

Overall, I liked this cigar. I found the building of flavors to be interesting and enjoyable. I thought that the overall smoking experience here was very good. This cigar is a little mild for my usual taste profile, but I still enjoyed it thanks to the construction and the building of the flavors. I think that I am rating this one as a 7.4 out of 10 on the scale putting it between Very Good and Excellent. I put it closer to a 7 just because of the patch (I think that is what was responsible for my burn issue that I had) on the wrapper, and the semi tight draw (even thought this did not detract from the flavors and the amounts of smoke, it was a little to tight for my liking).

Well another blind review in the books, and so far so good. I cannot wait to see what this one was!

Pros: Flavor was excellent
Cons: construction

Pre Smoke:
Scent of Wrapper: I smelled the aroma of hay or grass

Scent at Foot: Same

Appearance:Very heavy vein.

Wrapper: very dry brittle wrap, cracking in places, medium brown in color

Feel: very firm and with a bit of sponge in the middle I did not want to feel to hard I did not want the rest of the wrapper to crack

Tongue: tingling sensation

Flavor on Draw: Mild tobacco flavor with hint of oak, savor.

Smoke:

Taste:Sweet spicy taste with a hint of cedar

Strength: Medium body

Scent of Smoke: Pleasant rich sweet spicy cedar tobacco

Heat on fingers or mouth: it got hot with about 2.5 inches left

Draw Quality: Good draw consistent

Finish: It had a excellent finish with a very smooth creamy taste almost like a La Gloria

Other comments: I had a lot of burn issues with this cigar I had to consistently even out the burn other than that if I could rate the taste of this cigar alone I would give it a 7.5 however with the construction issues that I had I rated this cigar a 5.7

Pros: Very Nice Flavor
Cons: Appearance

Pre-Smoke:

Scent: A little bit of leather, mostly tobacco, somewhat sweet.

Appearance: This cigar was very veiny. The cap was rough looking.

Feel: Firm throughout, no major faults.

Smoke:

Taste: This cigar started mild-medium, but had very nice flavor and was somewhat spicy. It grow more medium-bodied and remained flavorful throughout.

Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: None. It remained cool done to the nub.

Draw: Very good draw.

Burn: Excellent. Burned evenly and required no touch-ups.

Overall, this was a great smoke. It had a very nice, somewhat spicy flavor thoughout. It wasn't the best looking cigar, but overall no construction issues. I look forward to smoking this cigar again.

Pros: Great mellow smoke, noticeably sweet
Cons: A little tight on the draw. Ash in my lap.

PRE-SMOKE

Scent of Wrapper: Nothing. Not aromatic.
Scent at Foot: Nothing.

Appearance: Corona shape

Wrapper: Smooth, but somewhat bumpy and irregular - it's not toothiness, but rather the veiny type nature of the wrapper. Nice sheen. Color is slightly mottled, but mostly consistent medium to dark brown.

Feel: Farily consistent, but there was a spongy spot near the head. Overall it is a little bit spongy, especially near the head.

Tongue: No tingle. Mildly sweet taste, with slight grassy/hay taste.

Pre-light Flavor on Draw: Light molasses flavor, hints of grass/hay.

SMOKE

Lit easily, and has an okay draw, but definitely leaning towards too tight.

Noted some nice grass/hay type flavors (which I like) and just a little bit of spice. Seemed to have some mild corojo-like flavors - not very pronounced in this cigar, but I think they were there. I keep noticing some sweetness - the good kind of natural sweetness you get from well-treated tobacco.

The cigar is producing an adequate amount of smoke. Produces no smoke when resting. Located a hard spot near the middle of the cigar which seems to be causing the slightly difficult draw.

Smoke is pleasant and smooth. Not harsh at all. Flavor I notice most is the hint of Field Grass or Hay flavor mixed with mild corojo-like flavors. I noticed it had some mild sweet tones which were very enjoyable. Creates a pleasant aromatic wood/cedar and grass scent in the room.

Strength: The flavor is mild-medium.

The feeling (or nicotine strength) is mild. No noticeable nicotine effects.

Scent of the Smoke: Very pleasant and aromatic, not heavy. Smells like cedar and grass. I think most people would say it smells good.

Heat on fingers and mouth: Nothing observed.

Draw: Draw was a little too deliberate for my taste. Cheeks were getting a workout - massaging the head helped some.

Finish: Short and mild finish. Pleasant. Leaves me ready for another puff right away.

Other: Fairly consistent burn line. Enjoyed the subtle natural sweetness of this tobacco. It comes across as being a fairly refined cigar. It strikes me as being very smooth - I keep expecting a little harshness to come out with the flavor, but it keeps on being surprisingly mellow. Seems to be well-balanced and thought out blend. Reminds me of a corojo-like flavor, but with a surprisingly nice sweet mellow flavor. I definitely like this cigar.

Ash is light and doesn't hold on well. I tended to have a lot of ash in my lap! I had to re-light the cigar after a couple of inches.

Overall, I would rate this cigar 7.2 which is a solid Very Good. Construction overall was good - it went out once, the draw was a little tight (but loosened up after a few inches) and the ash tended to fall off easily. It kind of reminds me of a Tatuaje Unicos, but milder and sweeter.

Pros: Good size, nice burn.
Cons: Flavor profile, construction.

PRE-SMOKE

Scent of WrapperNothing except some light tobacco, and maybe some leather.

Scent at FootI picked up some nice barnyard hay, leather and mellow tobacco.

AppearanceThis cigar had a very light almost "connecticut" wrapper, with a slight shine, and some vivible veins and blemishes. There was a double cap which was also semi-rough.

WrapperSmooth and non consistant with appearance.

FeelVery soft construction with some soft spots. The foot was very very soft.

TongueSmooth and loose when cut. I did notice a very faint spicyness there.

Flavor on DrawI did notice the same barnyard flavor, which was almost like fermenting hay. I also picked up some leather and plain old tobacco.

SMOKE

Flavors/TasteUpon lighting this cigar, I noticed an almost bitter flavor, which carried until the mid point. I picked up very little spice, which was consistant throughout the cigar. The leather was there and gone a few times. Nothing really stood out and hit my tastebuds.

StrengthI would say this stick was a med/mild strenght.

Scent of SmokeBurning tobacco.

Heat on Fingers and in MouthWas not a factor until about 2 inches left. The heat made the cigar spongy and hot very quickly.

DrawThe draw was very easy and produced tons of smoke anytime you wanted it.

Burn/AshThe ash was a light gray/black, flaky ash, which held on for about 1 1/2-2 inches.

FinishThe finish was long lasting with some bitterness and harshness. there was a small amount of spice there also.

Other Aspects of the CigarThere was nothing special about this cigar. None of the flavors seemed to go together. It was just a "plain" cigar. The best thing it had going was its perfect burnline.

I rated this cigar on the ICRS system as a solid 4.5. It was not bad, but nothing I would go out of my way to smoke again. There is always the chance I had a bad cigar also. I never rule that out. I always try to have an open mind and will always try a cigar twice, if the first go is not great.

Pros: Pleasing mellow flavors
Cons: Not the prettiest cigar in the humi

Pre-Smoke

Scent of Wrapper: Mild cedar and leathery tobacco aroma
Scent at Foot: I picked up hints of earth with some mild pepper overtones
Wrapper: Milk chocolate brown with several rather prominent veins. Some toothiness.
Feel: Very firm. This cigar felt like a Lincoln Log.
Tongue: Bland and almost tasteless.
Flavor on Draw: I got a rather earthy taste that left a slight tingling sensation on the back of my tongue.

Smoke

Taste: This cigar started out with a slightly bitter, straw-like taste with some hints of black pepper.
Flavor Changes: About a third of the way in, the bitterness disappeared and I began to notice a faint nuttiness that was rather pleasant.
Strength: Mild
Feeling: Relaxing
Scent of Smoke: Just a mild tobacco aroma
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: None
Draw: Deliberate with copious amounts of smoke. Just about the perfect draw for my tastes.
Finish: Creamy, rather smoky medium-length finish; almost like a peaty Scotch.
Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: This cigar burned perfectly all the way down to the nub and left behind a solid, light gray ash. A very well constructed cigar.

Final Rating: 7.8

Pros: Smooth smoke and flavor
Cons: Not the best construction

PRE-SMOKE

SCENT OF WRAPPER: Leather, hay.

SCENT AT FOOT: Leather, slight pepper

WRAPPER: Nice medium brown color, moderate veins, construction seemed a little less than great.

FEEL: slightly firm, good fill overall length of cigar, two soft spots one near foot and one mid cigar.

TONGUE: Nothing noted.

FLAVOR ON DRAW: Slight pepper.

SMOKE

TASTE: Slightly sweet with hints of spice.

STRENGTH: Mild, Mild-Moderate last third.

FEELING: Pleasant smoking experience but light on flavor.

SCENT OF SMOKE: Field Grass, Pepper, slight leather.

HEAT: Burned very cool throughout.

DRAW: Too firm on the draw throughout. Mouth was almost tired by last third from drawing.

OTHER ASPECTS: Clean burn edge the entire cigar with only slight burn issues, moderate amount of smoke.

Final rating is a 5. If the draw issue was not there I would recommend this cigar. With only one cigar to taste there is a possibility that others may not have this issue.

SMOKE

Lit easily, and has an great draw.

Noted some nice flavors and just a little bit of spice. Seemed to have some mild Macanduo flavors.
