Pros:
|
Pleasant roasted coffee flavors
|
|
Cons:
|
some discoloration on the wrapper, flavors might get a bit harsh
|
|
I smoked this 7X50 cigar on one of the hot and humid nights this past week.
Pre-Smoke
Sent of Wrapper: It could smell a nice leathery tobacco coming from the wrapper.
Sent at Foot: Grass or hay with a chocolate undertone.
Wrapper: This was a nice reddish brown wrapper with large veins running throughout. There were dark spots all over this wrapper, but they did not detract from the appearance. There were about 3 small light brown almost yellow spots on this one about 2 inches from the head of the cigar.
Feel: Consistently firm
Tongue:: I used a punch cut on this one, so I really got nothing.
Flavor on Draw: nice easy draw I could pick up the hay and chocolate flavors.
Smoke
Taste: This was sort of bland at the start had a hard time picking up the flavors, then about about 1/4 inch, I picked up a nice earthy dark coffee flavor/leathery flavors. As I continued on with this on, I started to get the flavors of a latte (Burnt creamy coffee) This was not sweet like JAVA but still very nice. As I approached the head of the cigar I got some more cedar flavors mixed in. This was a very interesting and pleasant cigar, I am sure that it is not for everyone, but I liked it.
Strength: The flavors on this one were medium.
Sent of smoke: Woodsy scent on the smoke. Pleasant.
Heat on Fingers and in mouth: none noted.
Draw: Very nice draw with my punch cut. this cigar produced plenty of smoke.
Finish: Very creamy and smooth coffee or Latte flavored finish. It did last for a while as well. Sort of coated my mouth.
Other aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: Very nice firm white gray ash here. I did not have a single burn issue so this one was well constructed.
Overall I would give this a 6.8/10. I enjoyed it and it was well made. The wrapper was a bit shabby looking but it smoked like a champ. I am giving it a rating in the 6's because it is not something that I would like to smoke each and every day, some of the coffee taste might be a little harsh depending on my mood, so while I really enjoyed this one, I would have to put it in the good to very good range.

Blind Tasting Panel Cigar #121
7” x 48 Churchill

ATMOSPHERE: Smoked on a very hot late morning on my patio paired with iced coffee and sports radio.
PRE-SMOKE:
Scent. I picked up some woody and earthy aromas from the wrapper and a mushroom and mossy aroma from the foot.
Appearance: A mottled coffee brown colored wrapper with a hint of reddish hue. Inconsistent color across the cigar and a few large veins visible. Looked loosely packed from the foot.

Feel: A little soft to the squeeze.
Pre-light draw: Lots of tingle on the tongue after my punch cut. Mostly earthy tobacco on the draw.
SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Started with nice coffee and strong pepper flavors with a hint of ginger (particularly when the smoke was expelled through the nose). Along with this there was a musty-leather base. After about the first 1” or so it became more woody (oak). A very enjoyable complex spice bomb that reminded me a lot of a corojo.

Strength: Full in flavor, medium-full in body.
Feeling: A little soft to chew. Nice strong pepper from the wrapper and it’s velvety texture reminded me of some very well aged cigars I have had. .
Scent of smoke: The cigar produced a fairly low volume of smoke at first so I blade cut. The volume was about average after that with a creamy white color and a woody and exotic spice aroma.
Heat: None.
Draw & Burn: Deliberate draw and slightly uneven burn that required a couple corrections.

Finish: A long spicy finish that left my lips and tongues tingling. Also left a mossy and woody flavor in the mouth.
OTHER:
Ash: This cigar had a grey ash that held well.

Duration: Smoked about 2/3 in 1.5 hrs because it was just too damn hot!
CONCLUSION: I found this to be a very rich and complex cigar with some great gingery/pepper and coffee flavors and I enjoyed it a lot. The appearance and spice definitely make me think it is a Corojo. Overall it had good construction and decent burn. My only minor complaint about this cigar was that it seemed a little wet..from the musty aroma to the only average volume of smoke. When I find out what this cigar is I will definitely be buying some and storing them at a lower RH for awhile. I would definitely recommend this cigar.
FINAL RATING: 9/10
Cheers!

Pros:
|
Wonderful burn and taste first half
|
|
Cons:
|
Burn problems and boring taste after halfway point
|
|
Pre Smoke:
Scent of Wrapper: Unusual sweet floral-ish scent that I am not familiar
with. Not the usual Spanish Cedar influence.
Scent at Foot: More pronounced floral scent, maybe a hint of cocoa.
Appearance: Crude single cap, minor veins, a number of dark spots.
Wrapper: Toothy wrapper, mottled medium brown in color
Feel: Firmly packed with light spring to the touch. Slight soft spot near head
Tongue: Very sharp tingling sensation
Flavor on Draw: Pleasant. Hint of cocoa.
Smoke:
Taste:
Initial: A bit sharp at first quickly settled into slightly sweet spicy flavor
1" in: Shift towards more spice less sweet. Very nice.
1/3 point: What’s happening? Initial tast that I was enjoying is fading.
2/3 point: Not unpleasant, but not nearly as enjoyable as first 1/2 of cigar
Flavor Changes: Went from very tasty complex flavor to unidimensional "blah"
Strength : Mild
Scent of Smoke: Sweet tobacco smell
Heat (hot on fingers or mouth?): None
Draw Quality: Excellent draw
Finish: Long and mild
Other comments: Started out very nice but sort of went south about half way. Began tunneling and I was having trouble keeping it lit. Would have been a much better experience if the cigar had finished the way it started.

Cons:
|
Appearance
|
|
Pre-Smoke:
Scent: Earthy and very sweet.
Appearance: It was somewhat veiny and spotty, but it's construction was very good.
Feel: Firm throughout.
Smoke:
Taste: Very nice flavor. It had a woofy, leather flavor with a nice hint of coffee. I really enjoyed the flavor of this cigar.
Strength: Medium-bodied.
Heat on the Fingers and in Mouth: None.
Draw: The draw was a little tight. It could some time in a lower humidity.
Burn: Very good. It burned pretty even and consistent throughout.
Overall, this was a very good cigar. It had a lot of great flavor thoughout. The wrapper was a little veiny and spotty, but it nice construction. The draw was a little tight, but it did not take anything away from the smoking experience. I am looking forward to finding out what this cigar is.

Pros:
|
Hearty strong flavor. Good construction.
|
|
Cons:
|
A little bit harsh. Flavor is perhaps too stong. Too much nic strength for my taste. Started out without enough smoke.
|
|
PRE-SMOKE
Scent of Wrapper: I smelled urine when I pulled it out of the cello. I suppose that is ammonia?
Scent at Foot: More pee. Very distinct urine smell.
Appearance: Toro shape
Wrapper: Smooth, but somewhat bumpy and irregular. Very Nice sheen. Color is slightly mottled, but mostly consistent rich dark brown color. This is a beautiful wrapper, thick and elastic.
Feel: Farily consistent, but there was a spongy spot near the middle and perhaps near the foot. Overall it is just slightly spongy.
Tongue: Noticeable tingle and zing! I didn't pick up any flavor, though.
Pre-light Flavor on Draw: Hints of sweet brown molasses.
SMOKE
Lit easily, and has a very favorable draw - near perfect resistance.
Noted considerable spice on first ignition. This is definitely not a mild stick. Right now it looks like it will be a fairly full flavored stick. It reminds me of a RP Vingtage Sungrown with lots of ummphf.
First impression is this is a pretty strong flavored cigar with lots of nic power. It does have an appealing flavor. It is producing an adequate amount of smoke but not abundant - about the bare minimum to be satisfactory. The flavor is okay, but it has a bit of an edge to it - a bit of harshness that is turning me off. I would like to see that mellow a bit.
The wrapper is fairly thick with a lot of elasticity and toughness. Amount of smoke increases as you get into it further.
At about an inch or two into the cigar, I am getting a lot of dry character, along with dry cedar and oak flavors. It has some corojo-like flavor, but that flavor is somewhat weak and overpowered by the strength, spice and a fair amount of harshness. Not a lot of complexity. Quite a bit of corojo-like spice.
I did not care for the extra-dry character - it tended to dry out my nose. The flavor seems to monotone and lacks any layers. It seems to be a bit unrefined. It seems to have been designed just to be strong. The harshness and spice subsides a little bit as you get closer to the half way mark.
Summary: Strong flavor and lots of nic power. Construction is very good, but I thought it was all power without enough positive flavors. I would rate the construction at about 7 and the flavor at about 5. Overall experience, only a 5.

Pre-smoke
Scent of Wrapper: Earthy, spicy tobacco
Scent at Foot: Oats & wild onions (strange)
Appearance
Wrapper: Nice medium brown possibly a natural wrapper, slightly damaged wrapper, the wrapper has a flake lifting off where the band would normally be.
Feel: Very firm, there seems to be a few hard spots on this one. One near the head, the foot and above where the cigar band is normally applied.
Tongue: spicy & peppery, tongue tingles
Flavor on Draw: very tight draw, grassy & hay like
Smoke
Taste: bitter at start, chemical flavor not harsh just not a pleasant taste, maybe not properly fermented tobacco
Flavor Changes
Strength: Medium throughout
Feeling: disappointing and frustrating
Scent of Smoke: sour, charred wood
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: Nil
Draw: Very tight draw, not completely plugged but it is very difficult to draw
Finish: A long unpleasant finish, the aftertaste just does not want to go away
Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: A nice solid white ash, not much smoke, an extremely difficult draw, I did not finish this one. The taste was just so unpleasant I could not continue to smoke this one.
Final Rating: I rate this 1 – Unpleasant Flavor (I would’ve rated this one a 2 for the flavor. It could just be that this was not a taste for me, but I could not get much of a draw out of it; I had to rate it for the taste and poor construction.)

Pre-Smoke
Scent of Wrapper: Leathery with some spice overtones
Scent at Foot: Leather and a dark earthiness
Wrapper: Slightly oily with medium veining
Feel: Solid along the entire length
Tongue: Peppery
Flavor on Draw: I got an earthy, rich tobacco flavor with hints of pepper that left a tingle on the tip of my tongue.
Smoke
Taste: The cigar started off rather bitter with flavors of earth and coffee.
Flavor Changes: An inch or so in the bitterness mellowed out and I picked up on espresso-like flavors that were quite nice
Strength: Medium-full
Feeling: Frustration due to burn problems
Scent of Smoke: Medium tobacco aroma
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: None
Draw: Decent draw, but a bit on the tight side for me.
Finish: The finish was long and very dry
Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: Very flaky ash that wouldn’t hold more than a few puffs. I also experienced numerous burn problems from the one-third point on that at times left me wondering if it would stay lit at all! This cigar required constant tending to the point that it distracted from the overall experience.
Final Rating: A rather disappointing 3. This cigar started with a lot of promise but quickly fizzled – quite literally.

PRE-SMOKE
Scent of Wrapper: Light scent. Very light.
Appearance: Toro shape, very long!
Wrapper: Smooth and shiney, but somewhat bumpy and irregular with a huge, talk vien on the outside along most of the cigar.
Feel: Farily consistent, but there was a spongy spot near the middle and perhaps near the foot. Overall it is just slightly spongy.
Tongue: I didn't pick up any flavor.
Pre-light Flavor on Draw: Hints of molasses.
SMOKE
Lit easily, and has a very good draw.
I am not sure on the flavor, but the construction, burn, ash, etc. are all fantastic quality. It is producing an ok amount of smoke but not overly abundant.
As soon as a I knock off the first ash the smoke and flavor start to really kick in. 1/4 and I am not sold on the flavor, though I don't find it offensive.
Now 1/2 way through and I am really starting to dig the flavor, interesting as it maybe.
Summary: Overall I would smoke another one of these puppies!
