Pros:
|
It looked nice
|
|
Cons:
|
Just about everything else
|
|
So I smoked #122 with high hopes it was a good looking torpedo that during pre-light was looking ok...then...you will see...
Pre-Smoke
Sent of Wrapper: There was a wet hay or barn yard smell. Not very strong
Sent at Foot: Stronger grassy hay smell, with a hint of some spice
Wrapper: Bumpy with dark black veins running throughout this medium brown wrapper
Feel: Firm throughout, very few spots where there was not a nice firm feel
Tongue:: Nothing noted
Flavor on Draw: Slight earth or dirt flavors
Smoke
Taste: Nothing pleasant here. Just a smoky old cigarette flavor. Not much changed, this was a very unpleasant cigar for me. There were no nice flavors that I could detect. I only got though about 2/3rds before I needed to give up because I could not stand the flavor profile anymore.
Strength: Mild to medium (more on the mild side), but I wish the strength of these flavors was nothing!
Sent of smoke: It was sort of windy outside, so I could not tell, but my wife who is usually a fan of the sent of a cigar said, "that smells disgusting".
Heat on Fingers and in mouth: Nope but again I did not finish this smoke.
Draw: I would say that the draw was wide open.
Finish: Just the same gross old cigarette taste as the smoke, I found myself spitting a lot and trying to get that taste gone.
Other aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: To top all of that off, I have the worst burn issues with a cigar that I have had in a very very long time. It seemed that one side of this thing just did not want to stay lit. I needed to touch it up about 3 or 4 times.
Overall, I would have to say and I am really disappointed because I thought that this one had a nice look about it, that this was one of if not the worst cigars I have ever had. With the burn issues coupled with the horrible flavor profile here, I honestly wish that I could jump into a time machine and have the hour and twenty minutes I had with this cigar back. I just kept wanting it to get better because it looked like it was going to be a nice smoke. I would not recommend this cigar to anyone.
Oh well, hopefully the next one will be better. I had high hopes for this cigar...

Pros:
|
Excellent draw and burn
|
|
Cons:
|
Too mild, taste was hard to pick out
|
|
Pre Smoke:
Scent of Wrapper: Sweet floral scent.
Scent at Foot: More pronounced floral scent, strong cocoa.
Appearance: Slight oily sheen. Minimal veins.
Wrapper: Toothy wrapper, consistent medium brown in color
Feel: Firmly packed with light spring to the touch. No soft spots.
Tongue: No real effect on the tongue
Flavor on Draw (unlit):Mild cheap tobacco flavor with hint of dirt
Smoke:
Taste:
Initial: Smooth but a bit bland…neither pleasant or unpleasant
1" in: Very subtle (mild). Sweet and creamy
1/3 point: More of the same
2/3 point: Nothing new here
Flavor Changes: Maybe slight increase in body but flavors stayed the same
Strength : Mild
Scent of Smoke: Pleasant but uninteresting
Heat (hot on fingers or mouth?): None
Draw Quality: Excellent draw
Finish: Short and very mild
Other comments: Makes gobs of smoke but is very mild. Taste is pleasant just not very pronounced. May be a good choice for the occasional cigar smoker or for those times you want a smoke but don't want to taste it for the next several hours. Burned and stayed lit even when I put it down for a minute or two. Would be a good "golfing" cigar.

Blind Tasting Panel #122
6.25 x 52 Torpedo

ATMOSPHERE: Smoked on a warm morning on my patio paired with root beer and the latest issue of cigar magazine.
PRE-SMOKE:
Scent. Very nice strong cedar and spice from the wrapper; a fruity tobacco aroma from the foot.
Appearance: This cigar a mottled, rustic, chestnut brown wrapper with a very inconsistent coloring. There were many large veins visible and the cap was crooked.

Feel: Felt a little loosely packed except for a couple of hard spots near the foot.
Pre-light draw: Very dry, sawdust sensation on my tongue after a blade cut. Light wood with a hint of spice on the draw.
SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: A very mild cigar with dominate flavors of light wood (pine) and a faint hint of chili spice. I also picked up some sweetness and leather after about the first 1/3 but again it was very muted. I found myself expelling the smoke through my nose a lot to turn up the volume on the flavors; which it did a bit for the pepper.

Strength: Mild.
Feeling: Good resistance to chewing with a faint hint of pepper from the wrapper.
Scent of smoke: This cigar produced lots of grayish-white smoke that had a very mild woody aroma.

Heat: None.
Draw & Burn: Draw was easy. Burn was pretty bad. The burn line was very rough throughout and required several corrections. After about the first 1/3 it began to tunnel and required a re-light. The cigar seemed overly wet to me.

Finish: This cigar had a short woody/sawdust finish with a hint of spice. At times it was almost papery which I do not like.
OTHER:
Ash: Slightly flaky salt and pepper ash.
Duration: Smoked about half of this cigar in 1 hr because I wasn’t enjoying it.
CONCLUSION: Despite some nice flavors, this cigar was much too mild for my tastes and had some major appearance and burn issues. It seemed to be a bit wet so it might benefit from time at a lower RH, however I don’t think this would be something I would do (it doesn’t seem worth the effort) nor would I recommend this cigar to others.
FINAL RATING: 4/10
Cheers!

Pros:

Nice flavor, albeit very mild.
|
|
Cons:
|
Burn issues
|
|
Pre-Smoke:
Scent: It had a very grassy scent.
Appearance: The tip was a little rough, but overall a decent looking cigar.
Feel: No soft spots and pretty consistent.
Smoke:
Taste: Had grassy and woodsy flavor.
Strength: Started mild and never really strengthen.
Heat on Fingers and in the Mouth: None.
Draw: Very good.
Burn: Burned fairly uneven throughout requiring several corrections.
Overall this was a rather unspectacular cigar. It was mild and had a decent flavor. It lost points for its burn issues. I would recommend it those who enjoy a mild cigar and suggest keeping it a lower humidity.

Smoke
taste: bitter taste in the beginning that evened out a little but not much and carried though the entire cigar. after a while (halfway) it developed a very noticable burnt taste.

draw: nice draw (near perfect)
finish: very noticable burnt taste

Pros:
|
Abundant smoke
|
|
Cons:
|
Flavor was weak and a little unsatisying
|
|
PRE-SMOKE
Scent of Wrapper: Lightly aromatic. A faint grassy aroma with some hints of sweetness.
Scent at Foot: Similar to wrapper.
Appearance: Torpedo shape
Wrapper:
Consistent medium brown color. Very low sheen. Head of the torpedo is formed somewhat crudely.
Feel: Consistent from head to foot, but fairly spongy overall.
Tongue: No tingle. No noticeable flavors.
Pre-light Flavor on Draw: Hints of grass - slightly sweet. Draw is free and open. Very easy draw.
SMOKE
Lit up quickly. Very easy draw. Produces abundant smoke easily. Flavor is mild to mild-medium. Not an unpleasant flavor, but rather meek and not very flavorful in general.
Smoke is light in character, not heavy at all. Lots of white to light gray smoke.
The flavor is mildly grassy. Fairly dry in character.
Strength: The flavor is mild to mild-medium.
The feeling (or nicotine strength) is mild. No noticeable nicotine effects.
Scent of the Smoke: Pleasant and aromatic, not heavy.
Heat on fingers and mouth: Nothing observed.
Draw: Draw leans toward being too open.
Finish: Short and mild finish.
Other: Fairly consistent burn line - no touchups necessary. Ash is light and holds on fairly well. Well formed ash, not flakey. Smoke rolls easily and produces some flavor, but not as much as I would normally like to have. It was just difficult to get real excited about this cigar. Not offensive at all to me, just not many positives to get excited about. An okay value smoke for someone wanting a very easy, light smoke. May have some slightly ammonia-like off-flavors - especially when the cigar gets too hot. Easy to overheat this cigar because of the very open draw.
Overall, I would rate this cigar 5.6. which is between Acceptable and Good. I thought the flavor was a little weak and not very interesting.

Flavor & Aroma

Cons:

Burn Issues
|
|
Pre-smoke
Scent of Wrapper: Slightly sweet w/ sharp pepper spice
Scent at Foot: Mildly sweet, cotton candy
Appearance
Wrapper: Corojo or Sungrown, rustic, thick w/ lots of veins
Feel: Firm w/ a little spring
Tongue: mild, very little tongue tingle
Flavor on Draw: Grassy & sweet
Smoke
Taste: Started sharp with lots of pepper spice. After 1/3 it mellowed to a woody/nutmeg & cedar taste. (very appealing)
Flavor Changes
Strength: Full at first and then mellows to a tasty medium
Feeling: Relaxation at first then a little frustrating
Scent of Smoke: Very aromatic sweet and savory smoke
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: None at all
Draw: PERFECT! Easy with a touch of resistance
Finish: Short, the flavor was light and did not linger
Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: This cigar had a very tough, thick wrapper that did not want to stay lit. I had to relight several times which was bothersome. The flavor was so tasty that I did not want to put this one down but because of the burn problems I had to for sanity sake.
Final Rating: I rate this 6 – Good (I would’ve rated this one higher but because of the problems with keeping it lit I had to downgrade it a bit. I only smoke 2/3 of this one due to the burn issues.)

Pros:

Some interesting flavors
|
|
Cons:
|
Too mild. Burn Problems
|
|
Pre-Smoke
Scent of Wrapper: I detected a rather cereal aroma from the wrapper
Scent at Foot: Somewhat earthy with a slight sweetness
Wrapper: The medium brown wrapper was dull and moderately veined, with a vein end showing about one third of an inch below the cap. I also noticed two sizable indentions in the cigar – one just above the foot and one near the midpoint.
Feel: Rock hard
Tongue: A clean guillotine cut rewarded me with a flavor reminiscent of cocoa powder
Flavor on Draw: An enjoyable flavor of rich, loamy soil with a slight peatiness.
Smoke
Taste: The cigar began with a dry, straw-like flavor with some bready overtones.
Flavor Changes: As I progressed into this cigar, I began to notice hints of pepper and a sweetness that I can only describe as raisin-like. When exhaled through the nose, I also picked up on a note of vanilla.
Strength: Mild
Scent of Smoke: Mild with just a hint of sweetness
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: None
Draw: Just a slight resistance
Finish: The finish on this cigar reminded me of burnt sugar.
Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: This cigar had a tendency to canoe throughout the first half. Rather dark, flaky ash. To me, this cigar seemed to be in need of some long-term storage at a lower humidity.
Final Rating: 5.1
