Blind Tasting Panel Cigar #123
5” x 50, Robusto
ATMOSPHERE: Smoked on a hot morning on my patio paired with water and sports radio.

PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: Very unique and enjoyable sweet cocoa and nut aroma from the wrapper. Earth and basic tobacco from the foot.
Appearance: Light coffee bean, mottled veiny wrapper. A light maduro?
Feel: A little soft to the squeeze and seemed a little loosely packed.
Pre-light draw: A little sweetness on the tip of my tongue after my punch cut. Earth/dirt and a hint of sweetness on the pre-light.
SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Started out with very mild bread and nut flavors and a very very small hint of pepper. After about 1” flavor became predominately light wood and stayed that way for the rest of the smoke. No extra flavors when expelling the smoke through the nose.

Strength: Mild
Feeling: A little soft to chew and not a ton of flavor the wrapper.
Scent of smoke: This cigar produced lots of light grey smoke with a light woody aroma.

Heat: None.
Draw & Burn: Good deliberate draw. Burn was slight uneven and required a couple of corrections.

Finish: A short and dry finish with woody/sawdust flavors.

OTHER:
Ash: Ridged grey ash that held very well.

Duration: Smoked to final 1” in about 1hr.

CONCLUSION: There was nothing terribly wrong with this cigar is was just too mild and bland for my tastes. For most of the smoke the flavors and aftertaste were just mild wood. In fact, the best part of this cigar for me was the pre-smoke aroma. Overall the burn and construction. I wouldn’t buy this cigar myself nor would I recommend it…better mild flavors can be found elsewhere.
FINAL RATING: 6/10
Cheers!

Pre-smoke
Scent of Wrapper: Mild & buttery
Scent at Foot: Sweet chewing tobacco
Appearance
Wrapper: Medium brown toothy & veiny
Feel: Firm w/ sponginess
Tongue: sweet w/ a touch of tongue tingle
Flavor on Draw: Grassy
Smoke
Taste: Started sharp with pepper after 1/3 it mellowed to a smooth tobacco taste.
Flavor Changes
Strength: medium
Feeling: Maximum relaxation
Scent of Smoke: Floral
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: None
Draw: Perfect for me with a touch of resistance
Finish: Short
Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: The burn line of this cigar was erratic. It was extremely hard to maintain an even burn. The flavor of this cigar was however so pleasurable that I ended up nubbing this one. Tasty!

Pros:
|
Sweet tones, rich dark sweet floral flavors. Smooth flavor, never harsh.
|
|
Cons:
|
Crude construction, jagged burn, ash drops off easily.
|
|
PRE-SMOKE
Scent of Wrapper: Mild sweet smell. A little bit floral - lilac?
Scent at Foot: A little floral, a little sweet chocolate perhaps.
Appearance: Robusto shape
Wrapper: Fairly bumpy. One predominant vein, rest are small veins. Not a lot of sheen. Color is mottled - very dark brown with some almost black mottling. The cap is a little crudely formed.
Feel: Very firm for the head end, slightly looser at the foot half. No soft spots noted.
Tongue: No tingle. Mildly bitter taste.
Pre-light Flavor on Draw: Moderate cabbage flavor. Some mild sweet tones.
SMOKE
Lit alright. Perfect draw. Right off it struck me with flavors that instantly reminded me of the 5 Vegas Serie A. Kind of a raisin, nut, cream combo with dark sweet chocolate notes at the forefront, with some floral, perhaps lilac lurking behind. This cigar is easy to roll through the nose right from the start.
Pleasantly sweet and creamy - great sweet tones mixed with hearty dark coffee/chocolate. The cigar is freshly lit and is producing a very pleasing amount of smoke. The draw on the cigar is very near perfect.
Smoke is very smooth and creamy with a nice dark character. The cigar has a predominent sweet flavor. Creates a pleasant sweet aromatic floral scent in the room.
Strength: The flavor is medium.
The feeling (or nicotine strength) is mild. No nicotine effects.
Scent of the Smoke: Very pleasant, sweet and aromatic, slightly heavy and has a bit of floral lilac to it. I think most people would say it smells good.
Heat on fingers and mouth: Nothing observed.
Draw: Draw was nearly perfect.
Finish: Kinda short but tasty.
Other: Jagged burn line - required touchups and a re-light. The "mascara line" ranged from fairly thick at some times in some spots to thin in others and was not consistent.
Ash is moderately flakey, and it tends to end dropping off in my lap.
Overall, I would rate this cigar 6.2 which is Good. I feel this cigar had potential to score higher, but unfortunately the construction overall was slightly flawed at best. The cap was kind of crudely formed, the burn was VERY jagged, and it tended to drop its ash unexpectedly. I thought the flavor the cigar offered was very good. The sweet smooth flavors were welcome and pleasant to roll. I picked up what i interpreted as some sweet floral notes in the background, like lilac, which I thought added nicely to the dark sweet tones. I really enjoyed the flavor of this cigar. The construction issues weighed it down.

Pros:
|
nice peppery start to this
|
|
Cons:
|
flavors turned almost metalic and flawed constuction
|
|
This cigar was enjoyed out on my porch with a cup of decaf.
Pre-Smoke
Sent of Wrapper: Fruity grass smell, pleasant.
Sent at Foot: Earthy barnyard at the foot.
Wrapper: This was a rough looking cigar with a Dark Brown wrapper that have many spots and large veins running through it. Just had a rough feel to it.
Feel: Hard seemed tightly packed
Tongue:: Nothing noted.
Flavor on Draw: Very mild earth flavor, almost nothing was noted.
Smoke
Taste: There was some initial spice here that was not very storng but was noted. This kept up for a bit, but then the flavors almost turn sort of metallic. It sort of got to the point where it felt like I was chewing on aluminum foil. It became very harsh as I neared the head of this and within 2 inched it was very harsh metal taste.
Strength: Mild strength
Sent of smoke: I could not get this because a couple houses down someone was smoking the "funny" tobacco.
Heat on Fingers and in mouth: none noted.
Draw: Firm draw, not tight, but firm.
Finish: Initial peppery finish, but then turned to that metallic flavor and was not very pleasant.
Other aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: I had some very large burn issues here. It started off going wrong, but then corrected itself, but about an inch and a half in I had a canoe issue, and needed some serious work to fix. I thought the ash sort of blossomed out in a flower pattern and was very flaky.
Overall I would give this a 4/10. I think both the construction and flavors were flawed here. I would not recommend this cigar.

Pros:
|
Pre-light aroma and draw
|
|
Cons:
|
Rather bland, burn problems
|
|
Pre-Smoke
Scent of Wrapper: Mild, slightly sweet tobacco. Some earthiness.
Scent at Foot: Basic tobacco aroma with some sweetness.
Wrapper: Mottled, toothy wrapper with some prominent veins. Somewhat rough looking
Feel: Rather firm
Tongue: Mild chewing tobacco sensation that left a slight tingle on the tip of my tongue.
Flavor on Draw: Earthy flavor with just a hint of sweetness
Smoke
Taste: Started with some woodiness and an overtone of peppery spice.
Flavor Changes: About a third of the way in the spicy hints disappeared and the rest of the cigar tasted of a mild, woody tobacco flavor.
Strength: Mild
Feeling: Slight boredom
Scent of Smoke: This cigar had a mild aroma that had a slight floral quality to it similar to honeysuckle.
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: None
Draw: Good draw with just the slightest resistance
Finish: Short and somewhat dry on my palate
Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: This cigar wasn’t bad, but it was a bit dull for my tastes. The flavor was too mild and too bland for me. I also had a few burn issues that required correction. There was some promise here, tho. A more attractive wrapper leaf and some ligero in the blend could make this a much better cigar
Final Rating: 5

Pre smoke
scent of wrapper: sweet
smell at foot: black licorice
wrapper: dark brown, some colour inconsistencies, some very large veins, a bit rough looking.
feel: solid
tongue: nothing
pre draw: sweet, woody, cinnamon
smoke
taste: woody, nutty, with a very nice sweetness to it. Kind of reminded me of an aurora 1495. Couple inches through it became peppery. it became very spicy on the tongue with about 2 inches left. with an inch left the sweetness left and the pepper dominated.
strength: mild-med
heat: no heat
draw: started off very loose, then tightened up after an inch or two
finish: sweet tobacco
other aspects: with about 2 inches left it started to tunnel a bit and I had to relight the cigar a few times.
overall rating
6
I really liked the flavours from this smoke. The burn issues and the rough appearance is the only thing that brought the overall rating down

PRE-SMOKE
Scent of Wrapper: Sweet smell.
Scent at Foot: A little candy like.
Appearance: Robusto shape
Wrapper: Not completey smooth.
Feel: Very firm for the head end, slightly looser at the foot half. No soft spots noted.
Pre-light Flavor on Draw: Moderate sweet tones.
SMOKE
Lit alright very well. Draw is really tight, not getting enough smoke.
Smoke is smooth and creamy with a nice dark character. This cigar has a sweet flavor.
Strength: The flavor is medium.
Scent of the Smoke: Pleasant.
Heat on fingers and mouth: Nothing observed.
Draw: Draw was not very good, but it was better after the first ash fell.
The draw for me was a major bummer. The flavor was good for a medium cigar. The construction and burn was very good!

Pros:
|
mellow mild smoke that was consistant
|
|
Cons:
|
somewhat boring with bad construction flaws
|
|
Scent of wrapper: very sweet chocolate flavors with sweet tobacco
Scent at foot: more cocoa and café flavors
Appearance: There was a lot of really good oiliness to the wrapper with small veins and a clean look
Feel: The cigar held tight and firm when squeezed
Flavor on draw: There was not much of any flavors to taste except a tiny hay and some indistinct sweetness
The Smoke
First Third: The smoke opened up with very mild mellow smoke with hardly any nuance to it despite how good the scent of the wrapper was. I could detect some of the cocoa hints but they were not very strong. The smoke was ample and creamy, it lined my mouth well. Mainly the cigar showed normal tobacco flavors.
Second Third: The cigar moved slightly stronger, but the flavor profile remained mostly the same. There were some dark bittersweet chocolate flavors as well as a smoked flour type flavor.
Las third: No changes at all, the cigar finished much like it had started. There were still good tobacco and Smokey chocolate flavors in the mild range
Strength: definitely mild with a leaning towards medium
Feeling: The cigar did feel nice along the smoke, there was a creaminess to the smoke that coated the out in an not to unpleasant way
Scent of Smoke: The smoke smelled very average with no harsh notes
Heat: the smoke stayed cool throughout
Draw: the draw was fine if a little harder than I usually look for
Other: The burn for this cigar was bad. It never really had a straight line. The ash was inconsistent and would flower or break expectantly. During the 2/3 part of the cigar when i knocked of the ash there was a big twig sticking out of the cigar that had not burned out.
