Description: From the creators of the famous Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva line come a line that is truly earned the name of Masterpiece. In the old days, father and son, Carlos Sr. and Carlos Fuente Jr. used to make, maybe twenty cigars a day just for themselves to smoke and enjoy. The "Signature" was introduced in 1983 and that was the only shape available until around 1988 when they introduced the Classic and the Masterpiece. About that same time Carlos Sr. wanted to develop something totally different, unseen in cigars. So they started fooling around with a very short cigar, which was only for their own personal use. That cigar became the Short Story.

Today they make all these cigars and also a few very limited shapes such as the Work of Art, Best Seller, Untold Story or the Between the lines as well as others. These cigars are extremely difficult to make so their production is very small. Carlos Sr. and Carlos Jr. accumulate the limited production of these cigars in the aging rooms and usually release them around the holidays, something special for their fellow cigar smokers to enjoy.

Pros: Wonderful flavor and aroma! Superb construction.
Cons: Over all too fast...

Well, damn, I guess it's been a while since I did a decent review... Shucks fellas, I guess I'm a slacker Well, I figured that I would pick a nice cigar for this HOT Sunday afternoon, being as I deserved one, I dug into my special humi and picked out a Fuente Work of Art Maduro - heretofore known as a WOAM. Now this little beaut was given to me by my best friend and BOTL, Cabaiguan, about a year ago. He was traveling and thought enough of me to snag me a nice Fuente when he stopped by the cigar shop on the way back from a business trip. Cabby, you da man! This Fuente is a Work of Art alright. It is a specially released Perfecto in the 4-7/8″ x 46/60 size range.

Well, I am a bit of a Fuente whore and this stocky cigar was just begging me to smoke it! So, who am I to argue with a Fuente?

Following is my ICRS review with pictures of my August 5th smoking experience. I paired this with a Diet Barqs Root Beer, as it was a helluva hot day here in NC!

Scent of wrapper: Sweet tobacco - hint of cocoa and licorice.

Scent at foot: Same.

Wrapper: This wrapper is just replete with Fuente goodness... dark, oily and sooo scrumptious looking, I almost wanted to eat it like a chocolate bar. It was impeccably wrapped with only small veins, which is amazing considering it is a CT Broadleaf maduro.

Feel: Firm with no soft spots that I could discern. Just enough give in it to let me know it was nicely seasoned and not dry.

Tongue: No tongue on this one.

Flavor on Draw: Very sweet, cocoa and leather. Nice draw - not too much or too little, even with the nipple end on this chunky perfecto!.

Taste: Pre-light draw was sweet and leathery with some cedar. I sparked it up and it quickly rolled out some billowing smoke. It really was pretty darn sweet with the cocoa flavor and leather really punching things up! The taste profile was consistent from start to finish and cocoa was the major flavor evident. Puff after puff was chocolatey and leathery with some sweet mixed in. Some licorice was also evident, and it played nicely with the paired root beer I was drinking. I was really in heaven smoking this cigar...

Ash: Light to Med. Grey, with a very dense ash. Hung on well, as I had to tap it pretty hard to get it into the stinky! I was working the computer so I had to ash it prematurely, so as not to ash my lap when typing. Extremely well constructed.

Feeling: Truly, this was cigar smoking pleasure! I had not had one of these WOAMs for about a year or so, and this one did not disappoint! It was quality from start to finish. I was really did not want to put this cigar down and nubbed it until I burnt my lips! Heavenly is how I would describe it!

Scent of smoke: Very sweet and mellow. Sweet and mellow tobacco.

Heat on fingers and in mouth: Not hot really, until I nubbed it!

Draw: Superb - perfect draw!

Finish: Medium finish - stayed on the palate for a minute or so, with no bitterness.

Other aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: Again, Fuente has created an almost perfect cigar - at least for me! I am a huge maduro fan and this maduro combined with the filler blend of the Hemingway series, puts me in orbit. This was a wonderful smoking experience. Taste and pleasure on this was close to perfect. I would say this is a 9.5/10!
