Description: Nick Perdomo, founder of Tabacalera Perdomo, went against the grain by producing the only figurado in the bunch. But it’s hard to argue after looking at the end product. In fact, it’s hard not to be downright giddy before, during and after sparking this beauty. Aesthetically, the cigar is stunning, a tightly wound, bullet-shaped smoke with a dark, positively first-grade sun-grown Nicaraguan maduro wrapper leaf. This leaf is eye-popping: smooth with nary a vein, glistening with natural oils, and giving off a lovely sheen. The tip of this torpedo is masterfully formed into a sharp, very pointy head. Filled to the brim with an intricate blend of aged Nicaraguan fillers, Perdomo’s medium to full-bodied treat instantly awakens your taste buds with a potpourri of wide-ranging flavors. It’s not overly rich however, and the well-balanced smoke mellows as you go, occupying the palate with clearly discernible earthy notes, followed by a slightly cedary undertone and mellow spiciness. The draw is impeccable - slow, cool, and deliberate - making this cigar journey one you’ll want to take over and over.

Pros: nice nutty and cocoa flavors
Cons: too mild, somewhat poor construction

CI Legends Perdomo – Red Label
5.7 x 54 Torpedo

*Note: This was a blind review

ATMOSPHERE: Smoked on a warm morning on my patio paired with root beer and a good book.

PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: Nice, strong cedar from the wrapper and rich earth from the foot.

Appearance: Milk chocolate wrapper with a few very large veins visible. Cap was much darker in color than the rest of the wrapper. Good torpedo construction overall.

Feel: A few hard spots (stems) when squeezed but otherwise good resistance.

Pre-light draw: Some nice pepper tingle on my tongue after my blade cut. Earthy tobacco flavor on the draw.

SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Dominant flavors were almond and sweet cocoa that mixed together well. In the first inch I also picked up some savory spice (clove) especially when the smoke was expelled through the nose but that quickly disappeared. Overall the flavors were pretty mild and mellow but nice. I also picked up a little toast about ½ way through the cigar.

Strength: Mild.

Feeling: A little uncomfortable to chew because of a large thick vein near the foot. Not a ton of flavor from the wrapper .

Scent of smoke: This cigar produced a ton of creamy white smoke that had a very mild bready aroma.

Heat: None .

Draw & Burn: Good deliberate draw and slightly uneven burn that required a couple of corrections.

Finish: A short finish with sweet cocoa and bread flavors.

OTHER:
Ash: Nice white ash that held extremely well.

Duration: Nubbed in a bit over an hour.

CONCLUSION: An enjoyable smoke that bordered on being too mild for my tastes. The construction was pretty good overall. From the nutty and cocoa flavors I would guess that it was a maduro and it reminded me a lot of one I had a few days ago: the Quintero maduro.

FINAL RATING: 7.2/10

Cheers!

Rob
