PRE-SMOKE
Scent of wrapper: There was small hints of spice, maybe pepper, and just a hint of leather.
Scent at foot: I could smell some of that good "barnyard" smell, with more spice.
Wrapper: This is one killer wrapper, it has a "pinstripe" effect unlike the barberpole wrappers seen on some sticks. It was very smooth with little to no veins. There was no oilyness, and the pinstripe was a little crooked, but it is "hand-made".
Feel: This stick is very firm, rolled tight. There were absolutely no soft spots throughout. Overall it had a very nice construction.
Tongue: It cut very nicely with it being as firm as it was. There were no visible stems when I cut it. The cap held together nicely also. I got no tingle on the lips or tongue with this stick as I have with some.
Flavor on draw: I got some more of that barnyard flavor with more cedar and maybe some vanilla. The spice seemed to mellow after the cut.
SMOKE
Taste: After I fired it up I was hit with an immediate bitter flavor which you usually get from some sticks upon lighting. This went away immediately and was replaced with a nice toasty/nutty flavor with some cedar and what I tasted as sunflower seed flavor. The flavor stopped there and really never changed or intensified at all.
Strength: The America has what seemed to me as a medium strength. It really never went to a full strength or to mild. It was very consistant throughout.
Burn/Ash: Nice burn and ash. I knocked the ash off after about 2-2/1/2 inches. It was a solid ash with little to no flaking. I would say this sucker would hold a killer ash if you tried. I never had to touch it up at all durring the entire time.
Scent of Smoke: It smelled like a cigar. I believe this section is hard to describe if you are the one smoking it.
Heat on fingers/Mouth: I really never got any heat issues from this one. It was packed so tight it dissipated it well.
Draw: This is one of the negative aspects of the America I smoked. It had a plug about 3/4 inches from the head and made the draw very tight. I had to slowly massage this and over time it got better. After about 1-2 inches it opened up to be a nice smoking cigar.
Finish: There was lvery little finish. It was very short lived and really left nothing but a nice tobacco flavor there.
I had my hopes high for this one, and maybe I set them too high. It was just not an attention grabber like I thought it would be. It was overall a medium strength, med-mild flavored cigar. It never had me guessing what I was tasting, it was the same throughout. If they make them this consistant I would say it will be a "good" stick. It was very smooth for what it was with all that ligero in it. Overall I give it a 6.5 on the ICRS system!!!
