Pros: excellent classic maduro flavors
Cons: some construction issues, loose draw

Los Blancos Maduro
Robusto
5” x 52

ATMOSPHERE: Smoked on a warm morning on my patio paired with iced tea and a good book.

PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: I picked up a nice wood and faint cocoa aroma from the wrapper and rich earth and stronger cocoa from the foot.

Appearance: A dark chocolate/stout beer colored, mottled wrapper with a few visible veins. Very lumpy looking. Nice hinged double band.

Feel: Very hard to the squeeze in a few spots (felt like stems just under the wrapper).

Pre-light draw: A little tingle on the tongue after my punch cut. Cocoa and earth on the pre-light draw.

SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: This cigar had a very rich earth and cocoa base with a little bit of woodiness. I also picked up a little savory spice (cloves?) when expelling the smoke through my nose. I picked up a little toast flavor after about the first 1/3 and became a little more sweet after the first half.

Strength: Mild end of Medium.

Feeling: This cigar was a little uncomfortable to hold in the mouth due to a large vein/stem at the head. I didn’t want to pull it out for fear of damaging the wrapper..

Scent of smoke: This cigar produced tons of grayish-white smoke with a sweet (baked goods) and woody aroma.

Heat: None.

Draw & Burn: Easy draw, bordering on a bit to loose at times. Lots of smoke when not drawing; consistent with the loose draw. The burn was a little uneven and required a few corrections.

Finish: Short with a mild wood and slightly sweet aftertaste.

OTHER:
Ash: Slightly flaky, grey-white ash that held well.

Duration: Smoked into final 1” in just over 1 hr.

CONCLUSION: This was an above-average tasting maduro (with some nice rich cocoa and earth flavors) that had some fairly major construction problems (veins/stems, slightly loose draw, etc). The flavors vaguely reminded me of a HdM Dark Sumatra. I would give this cigar a 7.5 based on the flavors while the construction would be a 6. I am going to guess that I just got a bad stick so I wouldn’t definitely like to try another and would recommend that others give this cigar a try as well.

FINAL RATING: 6.9/10

Cheers!

Rob

Pros: Sweet Juicy Maduro
Cons: Be careful not to get this cigar too hot - ruins the flavor

I received this cigar from dHUTCH and had never heard of Los Blancos before, so I had no idea what it would be like.

This is a fairly uncommon tasting maduro. It really features the sweet - almost juicy - maduro flavor. You just don't get that in many maduros. I found it to be very enjoyable change of pace.

Appearance: Robusto shape

Wrapper: Shiny almost black wrapper with some predominant veins.

Feel: A little spongy and moist feeling.
Tongue: No tingle. Noticeable licorice and sweet molasses flavor.

Pre-light Flavor on Draw: Molasses and licorice.
SMOKE

Lit alright. Draw is a little tight on this one right at the start, but after a little massaging, it opened up to be an acceptable draw.
Right off it struck me with sweet juicy maduro flavors that I have not experienced much of in the past. Very delicious!
Flavors are dark molasses, raisin/prunes, and dark Rum. This cigar is a pleasure to roll through the nose right from the start.

The cigar is producing a little less smoke than I would like, but it is adequate.

Creates a pleasant sweet aromatic scent in the room.

Strength: The flavor is medium.

The feeling (or nicotine strength) is mild-medium. Some minor nicotine effects.

Scent of the Smoke: Very pleasant, sweet and aromatic, slightly heavy and has a bit of rum scent to it. I think most people would say it smells good.

Heat on fingers and mouth: Nothing observed.

Draw: Draw was a little tight, but acceptable.

Finish: Long sweet finish. You can almost chew on this finish! Delicious!

Other: Jagged burn line. The "mascara line" is thin an irregular.

Be careful not to get this cigar too hot while smoking. The flavor will change on you. If it suddenly gets a little bitter, it is too hot.

Ash is somewhat flaky. Cigar will go out on you if you set it down for a minute.

Overall, I would rate this cigar a 7 which is Very Good. The sweet maduro flavors were welcome and pleasant to roll. I really enjoyed the flavor of this cigar. It is a great change of pace from what I have been smoking lately and I would like to buy a five pack of these to keep on hand.
