Description: Cigar: Don Yeyo, Al Corto – Maduro Size: 5” x 50

Purchased: Don Yeyo’s Dearborn, Michigan on September 15th, 2007

Price: around $5.00 (I don’t remember the exact price)

Smoked: September 17th, 2007

Appearance: The wrapper had a few veins, over all a bit ‘rustic’, but not offensive looking. Nice darker brown colour with a light oily surface.

Pre-lite draw: Slight resistance, but not restrictive.

Burn: I had to correct the burn twice on this one, but the burn settled in about a third in. Since I didn’t let this one rest in my humidor for a period of time. I won’t pass judgment on the burn. Unless a cigar has been in my humidor for a period of time, I’m not sure if a burn issue can be attributed to construction or humidity, so I’ll give this one the benefit of the doubt.

Initial lite-up: ‘Grassy’ flavour with a slight hint of cinnamon. I was not impressed initially. A nice amount of smoke and the draw was very good maybe leaning towards the slightly restrictive, but not overly.

Half way point: The cinnamon flavour got stronger as I reached the half way point. This was first cigar that I really recognized this flavour. I didn’t find the flavour offensive in any way, just unique. A leathery flavour starts to build. This definitely improved from the initial lite-up.

Last third: The cinnamon flavour tapers off and the leathery flavour becomes more intense.

Overall: This cigar did what I like my cigars to do; start off ‘mild’, for the lack of a better term, and build throughout, drawing me into it. I like my cigar to change slightly(for the better) as I smoke it.

I would recommend this cigar. At about the $5.00 mark, I find this one a very good value.
