Ashton Heritage Puro Sol Corona Gorda 46x5.7
Wrapper: Cameroon
Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: Dominican Republic
MSRP: $8-9/cigar
I’ve had a 5-pack of these sitting in my humidor for about a year,, and I’ve smoked one every few months and thought it was time for a review. This cigar is rolled at Chateau de la Fuente, and it was introduced soon after the Ashton VSG line.
Pre light
I used a Xikar on this cigar that yielded a near-perfect cut. The pre-light aroma and taste our of sweet tobacco with a slight tanginess to the finish. The cigar itself has good construction with a Cameroon wrapper that is silky to the touch. The cigar has definitely noticeable veins.
1 Third
I am outside on my porch on a sunny morning. It is about 65F, and the birds are singing. The cigar starts right off with a very smooth, sweet taste and a hint of nuts. It offers a large amount of smoke, and the ash is burning a very light shade of gray. The ash holds very well and falls flush with the foot.
2 Third
The burn is steadily even. I’m now picking up a slight hint of pepper in addition to the other mentioned flavors. The aftertaste is a bit tangy.
Last third
I’m still enjoying a steady burn with sweet and peppery flavors. There is not much transition at this point. The cigar is smooth and enjoyable for a leisurely morning.
Over all impression:
I’ve always found Cameroon –wrapped cigars to have an even burn with generous amounts of smoke, and this cigar is no exception. The cigar is well-balanced but does not offer the amount of complexity I usually like. Stilll, a few singles would make a fine addition to any humidor whether you’re a seasoned smoker or just starting out.
Rating:
4/6 smoke rings (a good cigar)
