Drastic flavor change at midpoint
|
|
La Tradicion Cubana Robusto is a fine looking cigar with a silky Ecuadorian shade grown wrapper. It is solidly made, neatly capped, and sports a classic looking band. Pre-light draw is slightly firm with notes of cedar and the aroma is earthy and musty.
The cigar starts off with a mild, nutty flavor with hints of cedar. The draw is more firm than I like and each puff only produces a small amount of creamy smoke. Burn is straight and true.
Around the halfway point the character changes rapidly. The flavors remind me of balsa wood and paper and the aroma becomes slightly acrid. The finish becomes extremely dry and a slight bitterness starts to develop that eventually leads me to put down the cigar with almost two inches left.
The way this cigar began, I was expecting a nice, mild, relaxing smoke. The abrupt flavor change at the midpoint put me off the cigar in a big way. As I always do, I will give this cigar another chance, but right now I can't say that I like it very much.
