Pros:
|
Beautiful construction, nice full flavor
|
|
Cons:
|
Burn issues (Read Review)
|
|
Pre-smoke
Scent of wrapper: Very earthy/leathery - Solid cigar smell!
Scent at foot: Similar but with a little bit of sweetness
Wrapper: Dark Brown, smooth, very nice
Feel: Very firm
Tongue: Nice tingle on the tongue
Flavor on draw: I can't pick anything out but there was a nice sweetness on the lips
Smoke
Taste: Nice full flavor but again I can't pick out much
Strength: Full
Draw: Firm
Finish: Coated the mouth well
Other: I really wanted this cigar to be something better then what I smoked. I had serious tunnelling issues and a hard time smoking it! I had to put it down about halfway through as I was getting extremely frustrated. I am not going to pass a final judgement on this cigar yet as I want to try another one but, was disappointed in the burn issues I had!
Rated a 5 on the ICRS scale due to burn and not being able to really concentrate on the cigar.

I had issues with thi stick which I think were from over humidification

Gran Consul 4.7" x 60 pared with a single malt scotch: Glenlevet
Pre-smoke
Scent of wrapper: Big tobacco smell, dark, earthy, cedar, almost peaty.
Scent at foot: Mostly cedar and sweet tobacco
Wrapper: Dark Brown leather in color with darker almost black spots through out. The cigar has only a few small wrinkly veins but there are several spots that feel almost like there is a twig tightly wrapped underneath
Cap: The cap itself is bumpy but with a great shoulder that looks perfect after cutting.
Feel: FIRM Big ring gauge completely packed with tobacco and no soft spots
Tongue: ? Tobacco?
Draw: The draw is firm also with definite hints of Raisin, almost fig like but not as sweet. Brown wood.
Smoke
* After lighting a cigar I often blow through it before I begin to smoke and this time it caused the wrapper to split slightly about the last inch towards the foot.
Taste: First Few puffs; Black pepper right off in the back center of the tongue slight tickle in the back of throat.
1/4" The spice mellows and I get strong earthy cedar flavors but not nearly as much smoke as smoke as I was expecting from this well packed Jawbreaker. The smoke from the foot is giving of ammonia. I feel like I am having to work to keep it lit and have to touch it up several times to try and keep it burning even. I begin to sense a bad cigar maybe from over humidification? I bought this cigar from a local shop that same day. The ammonia scent bothers me and I wonder about the cause. I find it hard to believe the cigar has been made with improperly fermented tobacco and that leaves over humidification (right?? help anyone??).
2" in the spit has turned into a mess that seems to tear wider with each puff but the cigar is now burning well even with the obvious wrapper problems. The cedar and wood flavors have really begun to develop and I get some clove and coffee flavors.
AGHH! The tear combined with the ammonia smell, tight draw, and an empty stomach cause me to give up on this stick. I set it down and move on.
I will be smoking the cigar again soon to review here ( I picked up a few sizes). I am going to let them spend some time in my box and will be more aware of thier condition before I smoke it.
Even with all the problems I am still optimistic about this cigar I think it could have a wonderful, complex flavor.

I just wanted to drop in a quick review.
This cigar packs a good punch. Be sure and eat a good meal first! All of them I have smoked have been consistant and burned well.
I get a full bodied tobacco taste with cedar wood. That is about it. I have only smoked the Consul but was expecting some flavor changes that maybe I would get in a larger size.

Had a long drive between jobs so i pick this stick up at a local B&M
I was glad i found it. Construction was great no faults that I could see.
Pre-smoke -scent of earth . Firm and a tingle on the tongue
small taste of pepper
Smoke-- right from the start a nice bold flavor hit me " Wow this is going to be good" Had no problems with keeping it lit. (which was good cause I was driving) smoke was nice and thick and left a nice coating . At the last 1/3 it got a little harsh but I think was due to the windows being crack and causing it to burn a little hot.. Smoke time about a hour and I did nub it I will be getting more of these and next time I will be sitting down .. by the way I did get a little buzz from it Really like this one.
price was 6.99

I somked the lancero and may I say a great smoke. This Nic puro had a rich earthy flavor and a nice spicy finish.
I think they overfilled this cigar. I had some draw issues but it was to good to put down.
I am curious to see how they will change in the near future to compete with pepin.

Smoke this when you can handle a strong smoke

Antano 1970 Belicoso 6 X 54 paired with a Xingu Black Beer
Scent of wrapper: Cedar, Tobacco with some rich almost sweet notes like raisin.
Scent at foot: Sweet rich tobacco
Wrapper: Nice Colorado Maduro mostly even colored with small darker spots
Feel: Firm, well packed, not too bumpy.
Tongue: slight tingle, tobacco.
Flavor of draw: slightly sweet moist tobacco, dark, rich, slightly firm draw.
Cap: is a little rough but cut well and the shoulder remained solid through out the smoke.
Smoke: Spicy black pepper right off the bat that mellow about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in. Produces a nice medium to full body smoke with a slightly firm draw, much better than my first experience with the (over humidified )Gran Consul. It has a short finish and pairs with the Xingu without any bitter aftertaste. The paring seems to bring out the sweetness qualities of both. It is nice rich earthy smoke with strength that could sneak up on you.
The last 2" the spice seems to return a bit with out getting my fingers or my mouth hot.

Pros:

Good spicy flavor, long ash

|
Cons:

Had to re-light at the bottom third
|
|
Grand Consul 4.75x60
Pre light:
I made sure to have a big lunch today before lighting this powerhouse.
Cigar had a firm feel. It wasn't too veiny, which sometimes happens with these darker wrappers. Had a cedar smell to it, although that could be because it was in my humidor for a while and had no cellophane.
Light:
First Third:
I used a torch on this because of the 60 ring guage. I've found that a match doesn't work so well. The entire foot doesn't light before you start burning your fingers.
Right from the beginning I got a peppery taste which is what I really like. The draw was bit tighter than I wish but not unbearable. Cigar puts off a lot of smoke which is also a plus in my book.
Second Third:
The cigar lost alot of its peppery taste and got a bit milder. This is unusual. Most of the time the first third is a bit mild and the bolder spicy taste comes in the second. The ash was a hard grey almost half way through. Must have had a good roller on this one. The ash finally fell off.
Final Third:
This is where the cigar lost me. I concentrated on this cigar just for this review and didn't let it go out. It was starting to get peppery again but started burning hot. About ten minutes later it died out. When I lit it again it was pretty harsh. I tried to tough it out but to no avail, I had to put it out.
Final Thoughts:
For a medium priced cigar this was a pretty good stick. I can't beat it up for the last third because it could have been a fluke. I really liked how well this was rolled and how long the ash lasted. The feel of it at the beginning was harder than most premium cigars, which I thought would be trouble. It turned out to be ok. I've got three more in my humidor which will probably finish better. I do recommend this to a veteran smoker who likes a stronger flavor. This Cigar is not for the faint of heart.
Make sure not to smoke this on an empty stomach.

Joya de Nicaragua Antaņo Consul
This smoke is rather dear to my heart as I call it my $4 Opus. It's not for the faint of heart for many a man has fallen to it's overwhelming power.
Appearance: 4.5 x 52 ring gauge. Smooth silky Negro wrapper. Pure blow Nicaraguan and the distinctive, brightly colored Red Gold and Green band is a classic and one of my favorites of all time.
Pre Light: Firmness of the cigar gives a clean and even clip. Shoulder is firm revealing tightly rolled layers of equally dark Nicaraguan tobaccos. A dry draw is almost overwhelming with the earth (almost floral) and leather flavors.
Light: Torch needed for this foot roast and light. A little hard to get started but the richness requires more attention.
1/3: Over and again I experience a contradiction on the beginning here. Creamy pepper? Yup, thats what I said, creamy pepper with the earth and leather mix but a harmony of the flavors suggest a good blend here.
2/3: Here the spice kicks in and the black licorice is most noticeable. This seems to really happen quick, almost as if you picked up another cigar. I find a hidden giant lurking here for you are quite unaware this bad boy is sneaking up on you.
3/3: The finish on this cigar is nothing less than kick your a$$. The strength and complexity of flavors is almost overwhelming and it's all you can do to get er done.
I would rate this a:
4 of 5, 8 of 10, or 88 of 100

H. Upman Vintage Cameroon Corona
Pre- Light 13/15
The Cigar has a dark brown wrapper that has a nice oily sheen, very little vein, and a nice tooth. There are some very minor blemishes, but the Cigar has no soft spots and appears to be very well constructed. The cap , while not perfect is very nice. The wrapper has a faint smell with clean tobacco and some sweet cedar. The foot smells of pure cigar tobacco. The draw seems just slightly firm.
First third 23/25
The cigar lights well and has a nice even burn with a slightly firm draw. The cigar does not produce a ton of smoke and has very little "foot" smoke from the ashtray. It starts of with a noticeable spice but mellows out around 1/4" of an inch in and begins to bring a nice flavor with a little cedar. The ash is gray and firm and comes of in clean chunks when i tap it off. The Cigar is medium in body.
Second Third 32/35
The cigar really comes in to its own here. It gives of nice flavors some of which seem to come and go. It is not extremely complex but it is not static either. The burn remains great. The draw eases to a bit and is very nice.
Third third 20/25
The cigar is lacking here. Both of the cigars I smoked began to create off flavors. One hadsome kind of bad spot that tasted horrible and even went out. It returned after this spot but was never as good as the middle. I did not nub either of the cigars as it was clear the best of it had come and gone.
