I chose to smoke the Mx2 Robusto first out of the 8 CAO cigars I bought as a sampler. Mike at www.bigsmokecigars.com sent these great cigars over. They arrived intact and well humidified. Along with the cigar I had a great glass of Spanish Port.
Pre-smoke:
Rich peet-like smell with a little coffee in there.
Wrapper:
Dark rich brown double maduro wrapper. Smooth even surface and color with small veins running throughout.
Feel:
Firmly packed, oily with a clean cap.
Tongue:
Tasted a lot of sweet plum/ raisin notes with a peppery punch.
Smoke:
A woody sweet taste , again the rum/ raisin taste came through. The smoke had a medium to full spiceyness to it, I definetly felt the pepper on the back of my tongue. The smoke was cool and flavorful. Great ammounts of smoke with evey draw I took. As the cigar burned down to the halfway mark the ammount of smoke increased even more. The smoke itself had a woody harsh smell to it and had that great blue shade to it. The draw was good atthe initial light, but as it burned down it tightened up a little. I knocked off the ash and blew back through and this cleared up the draw a little.
Finish:
The draw loosened up again on the last 25% of the cigar. I was left with a bitter sweet peppery after taste. Overall I give the CAO Mx2 a 6 out of 10 rating, good overall. A 7 would have been given if the draw was a little more loose.
