Description: Cabaiguan (kah-bei-GWAHN ) cigars are a medium-bodied cigar created by Pete Johnson in concert with Pepin Garcia and his son Jaime. The cigars are named after a city in Cuba in northern Sancti Spíritus province that is home to some of the most knowledgeable cigar men in Cuba (Pepin just so happens to be from Cabaiguan as well). While they share some characteristics of the Tatuaje cigars in terms of construction and packaging, they are a distinct blend.

The Cabaiguan Guapo is a departure from the regular production Cabaiguan line, in that it has an Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper in lieu of the normal CT Shade wrapper. These cigars are not a one time release, but will be made available on an ongoing but limited basis.

The Guapo has a pigtail cap, and the Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper gives the cigar a bit more spice on your palate than the regular line. The band is also slightly different, with a silver framing around the traditional Cabaiguan band to denote its limited release status.

Pros: Great construction and great smoke
Cons: Nothing really outstanding

Pre-Smoke

Scent of Wrapper: Earthy and Leathery
Scent at Foot: Similar
Wrapper: Light brown with a nice triple cap with a pigtail
Feel: Very Firm
Tongue: Very minor tingle
Flavor on Draw: very dry with a slight tingle

Smoke

Taste: Smoke flavors I can't put my fingers on but a nice peppery taste at the end. Mellowed out after about 1/2" losing a little bit of the spice.
Strength: Medium to full
Smoke: Good amount of smoke
Heat: No noticible heat on fingers or mouth
Draw: Perfect - not loose but not too tight
Finish: Medium, not creamy/coating but not short and dry
Other: Easy light, even burn, nice cone.

Overall a very good smoke! I was impressed with the easy light and flavors it put out. One thing that was interesting was that the cigar put itself out near where I would have put it down anyway. I would rate this a solid 8 out of 10 on the ICRS rating system.
