I am smoking my first Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve Maduro Robusto (5.5" x 54). Nice pre-light draw. Beautiful very dark Costa Rican maduro wrapper which has an oily appearance.
After lighting this up, I could definitely taste the maduro flavor, and the finish is long and has a typical good sweet maduro flavor. It is producing an adequate amount of smoke. It is fairly full bodied and gives my nose a little tweak as I retrohale. At the start, it is not burning very well...if I set it down for just 30 seconds, it acts like it has almost gone out. I have to puff about six or eight times to bring it back to producing smoke. The ash is flaky.
I generally like the flavor (good maduro flavor), but I dare say that it is a little overbearing - particularly at the start. I guess I would say that it is a little harsh. An inch or two in, the flavor begins to mellow out a bit and some of the burn issues are improving.
In the end, I am a bit torn. On the one hand, I like the maduro flavor, but on the other, I am not enthusiastically enjoying it either. It is just a little bit too harsh. Maybe after some time, some of that would resolve itself.
