From a cab of 50, Box code unknown, delivered Feb 2008 in Canada.
Smoked most with water, but I finished the cigar with some 1974 Crown Royal Limited Edition.
I smoked this cigar in honour of Kenai, JoeyBear's best buddy.
This is my first review. I can't claim to have a trained or experienced palate, and I can't blow smoke through my nose without hurting myself, so all I can really say is this was the best cigar I've ever smoked in my few short months of cigar smoking. However, I prefer the Bolivar taste to Partagas and Montecristo, but I have had only maybe 30 different cigars.
I found this almost-Robusto size just perfect for me. Flat top, perfect construction, wrapper not as smooth as a Monte, but typical for a Bolivar, e.g., a Royal Corona. The filler was packed tight - see cap - like seemingly only Cubans are, but with a draw with only a hint of resistance, easily overcome, but always present.
The cigar was fresh, and definitely could use some aging, as I got a hint of ammonia in a few draws about one-third through. As a young smoke, the power was there, but seemingly in a velvet glove, unlike, say, a traditional Nicaraguan where I feel the power head-on.
Again, as a newbie, the flavours I experienced probably aren't too useful. Besides the "cuban cigar taste," it wasn't a sweet cigar, but had all kinds of flavours - hint of honey, earthy, vanilla maybe, all kinds of stuff I don't have the vocabulary to describe - but primarily a rich nuttiness and creamy leather, and a wrapper that tasted good enough to eat, and a delicious nutty aftertaste - like expensive fresh-roasted walnuts, pecans, I dunno, but I was salivating. A bit of spiciness in the last third as the smoke got hotter. Some cedar in the last 3/4".
In comparison to the Royal Corona's I've had, the Simones was richer, fuller, and more complex.
One minor correction in the burn needed, but that's due to me smoking like a chimney - once this cigar started going, I couldn't put it down except to take pics.
I'm definitely going to pull the trigger on a cab of 50 if I can.
