I promised a review. This will be 100% honest. I wish i had the chance to take notes on this cigar, and give it a real in depth review. I didnt, so this is what you get.
Cigar - Nub
Size - 4x64 We Dub this Nub the Stub (thanks tim!)
Wrapper - Habano
Looking this cigar over I noticed a few things. One, the wrapper on this cigar is beautiful. Nice silky smooth texture, with a few smaller veins. I was a little nervous smoking such a large ring gauge. Its by far the largest Ive smoked yet. This cigar is very firmly packed. No soft spots throughout. The smell I got is of just good tobacco. Pre-light draw was a bit firm but not bad. A slight tingle when touched to the tongue. Little tricky getting such a large ring gauge lit. Took a bit of work but when fired up, plenty of smoke.
A rush of flavor right of the bat. I must say its mostly wood and leather. A small bit of pepper is present but not a lot. I wouldnt call it "spice", more like a black pepper. Really nice actually. I have to say it was really good right from the beginning! The initial draw remained a bit firm, but I got PLENTY of nice smoke.
Further down I must say this cigar stayed fairly consistent. The little pepper I got seemed to come and go but the main flavors seemed to remain wood and leather. A more full body, but still pleasantly smooth. No harshness. The draw did seem to loosen up when I finally got this cigar warmed up a bit. Still creating plenty of smoke. The burn was a bit off. I hadn't needed to correct it yet, so no complaints.
The last third, still that leather and wood flavors I got from the very beginning. I did pick up a bit more of that pepper towards the end. Burn still a bit off. Had to touch it up slightly towards the remaining 1" mark. I did have a small part of wrapper come up, but it didnt affect the cigar. The burn caught up with it and fixed itself! (I do have to add the burn may be due to storage. I had no control on storage prior to smoking these). I smoked it down under 1" left and let it die a dignified death.
Overall, I have to say I enjoyed the hell out of this cigar. The flavors did stay consistent throughout the entire cigar, an aspect I heard Sam was shooting for on the Nub. I must say he succeeded on that. The burn was a bit off at times, but being such a large ring size, I am actually shocked it wasnt worse. This cigar produced a ton of smoke. Im not good on rating cigars, and actually dont like to do so unless ive had more then one, but it was honestly one of the best cigars Ive had in a while. Well done Sam. You have a fan of the Nub already!
