Hoyo De Monterrey - Dark Sumatra Espresso
Size:Rothschild 4 1/2 x 50
Pre-Smoke
Scent of Wrapper: Slight scent of raisins.
Scent at Foot: Leather with a hint of that raisin smell
Wrapper: Nice dark chocolate brown. Nice even color to it. One larger vein towards the head. Oily with a nice sheen.
Feel: Firm with just a bit of give. No soft spots
Tongue:: Slight saltiness. No tingle
Flavor on Draw: Very faint, maybe a hint of leather
Smoke
Taste: Started with mostly leather with a bit of sweetness. Fairly smooth. Started picking up more of a coffee note about an inch in that stayed throughout the rest of this cigar. No pepper or spice throughout entire smoke. Picked up a bit of an unpleasant harshness right towards the end. A bit of a sourness as well, but this wasn't present until there was under 1" left. I must say the flavors were very enjoyable until the remaining 1" mark.
Strength: The flavors on this one were medium . Not overwhelming in any way. Enough to keep it interested but not enough to scare people off.
Sent of smoke: Not very pungent.
Heat on Fingers and in mouth: Stay very cool until about an inch remaining. Got a bit too hot to hold there after.
Draw: A bit firm but loosened more towards half way.
Finish: Not much of a finish. Mainly that leathery taste lingered a bit.
Other aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: Salt and pepper ash. Held on for over an inch. Burn was fairly straight and required no relite. Construction was solid.
Conclusion: This cigar gets a solid 7. I smoke these fairly often and always enjoy them. I find em to be priced very reasonably, and construction never fails me. Good maduro smoke!
