Pros: hearty medium flavor, thick leathery wrapper
Cons: rough appearance, not a complex flavor

Pre-smoke
Scent of Wrapper: Leather and a sweet scent.
Scent at Foot: Very much the same as the wrapper. Picked up a little bit of mint?
Appearance: (image of cigar)

Overall, I thought the appearance was okay
Wrapper: A rugged looking wrapper that had fairly pronounced veins and was generally very rough. There was one patch on the wrapper near the head of the cigar. Some slight oilyness to the wrapper.

Feel: Consistent from head to foot, very firm, no soft spots.
Tongue: Cool, sweet.
(Press tongue to newly cut end and note perceptions)
Flavor on Draw: Leathery, sweet.
Smoke
Taste: (1) Cigar started out medium and stayed very consistent strength throughout. Lots of dry wood flavors.

Flavor Changes: (image of cigar)

(2) None that jumped out at me. This cigar seemed to stay consistent throughout.

Strength: The strength was medium from start to finish.

Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: The cigar burned well except for a bit of uneven burn line for the first two inches. After that, it straightened up and burned fine.

Finish: The finish on this cigar seemed brisk to me. It did not seem to linger on the palate more than just a few seconds.

Final Rating: Re-read all your comments and notes above and consider them with your general understanding of cigars. Rate this cigar on a 0.1-10.0 scale using one decimal point. Consult the scale on the left. Note your score here:

Overall the smoke was "good". I would give it a 6 for construction and a 6.5 for flavor. Overall, a score of 6.2.

Pros: Nice looking wrapper, good draw.
Cons: Slightly acrid, uneven burn, unpreasant aftertaste.

This cigar was a reddish wrapper (Rosado ???) slightly bumpy cigar (OOOPS: I have edited out this word "torpedo"). the wrapper has a mild smell. It seems fairly consistent rolling.

The cigar lighting went off without a hitch.

First Third: The cigar has a mild and slightly acrid taste. I am also finding an unpleasant tangy after taste. It doesn't linger on the palette but it is noticeable. I also am having a burn issue which seems to be correcting itself.

Second Third: The cigar is still mild and acrid. I am starting to notice a harshness to the cigar. But the uneven burn has come back.

Third Third: The cigar is now harsh and the uneven burn is here to stay. Fortunately the burn is not getting worse. I have also noticed that the unpleasant aftertaste has diminished quite a bit.

Conclusion:
This cigar would be good for a mild cigar smoker if the harshness and acrid taste could be tamed. The wrapper was very good looking.

Pros: nice cedar and tea flavors
Cons: mediocre construction, rough appearance

Blind review of Tasting Panel Cigar #101.
?, Double Corona 7.5” x 54

ATMOSPHERE: Smoked on my patio on a beautiful Arizona morning paired with French-roast coffee and Kid Rock on my iPod.

PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: Cedar and earth from wrapper. Some floral notes from foot.

Appearance: Bumpy, rustic looking wrapper. Reddish brown, similar to a Rosado or Corojo. Could clearly see the edges of the tobacco leaves.

Feel: Loosely-packed. Weight was very light in the hand for such a large cigar. Good resistance when squeezed, however.

Pre-light draw: Mostly wood.

SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Pleasant cedar flavor with a strong aftertaste that reminded me of a good strong cup of tea. A tiny bit of sweetness and stronger cedar flavors when exhaled through the nose. Fairly strong straw flavor from wrapper when held in the mouth. No real flavor changes. Became a bit more mellow and aftertaste was not as strong as it went along. I think this was due in a large part to the pairing with strong coffee which helped to mute it.

Strength: Medium bodied throughout with some aspects of fullness (particular the taste of the wrapper when held in the mouth and the aftertaste).

Feeling: Good resistance to chewing.

Scent of smoke: Mostly nice burning cedar scent (like a good campfire) with some slight hints of fruitiness that I couldn’t identify.

Heat: A little bit at first when held in the mouth.

Draw & Burn: Good draw with an average amount of smoke. Uneven burn needed to be corrected a couple of times. Cap unraveled a bit which is not uncommon for me with less expensive cigars b/c I like to keep the cigar in my mouth a lot while smoking.

Finish: Slightly dry. Strong tea aftertaste that grew on me more and more as I smoked this cigar. Left a nice taste in my mouth long after I finished smoking.

OTHER:
Ash: Mostly grey, slightly flaky ash that fell off onto the ground at about the 1.5” point. Lots of ridges in the ash.

Duration: Stopped smoking with about 2” left after 1hr-15min due to time constraints. Would have happily nubbed it if I had more time. Smoking time seemed a little short for such a long cigar, consistent with the loose-packing and light weight. A smaller vitola of this might go way too quickly…

CONCLUSION:
A good tasting cigar with pleasant cedar and tea flavors. I thoroughly enjoyed it as a nice morning smoke! It was like a less-refined version of one of my regulars: the Partagas Spanish Rosado. The main limitation was it’s mediocre construction that lead to some burn issues. I would definitely buy this cigar if it were less than $5 but would not pay much more because of the construction and loose packing. As far as recommending this to someone else…I think the make or break factor with this cigar will be the tea aftertaste. I liked it but I think it may be too bitter for some. I would suggest pairing it with a strong drink like coffee to tame the aftertaste a bit.

FINAL RATING: 7.3/10

Cheers!

Pros: Med strength.
Cons: Construction

Construction:
There was a patch near the foot on the wrapper along with some large veins. There were a few "soft" spots in the cigar also.

Draw:
The draw was perfect. Lots of good smoke.

Flavors:
I was not hit by any dominant flavors. I did taste some woodsy flavors and maybe something sweet. The strength was meduim and did not really change from start to finish. It almost seemed to give off a "beer" flavor in the middle for a minute. (I was not drinking beer)

Burn and Ash:
The ash was loose and flaky. Held about 1-1 1/2 inch. I had problems at the beginning and after a few touch ups it cleared up.

Overall:
I think this cigar could use some more complexity and defined flavors. I would buy this as a bundled cigar. The appearance could use some improvement. If I had to choose one thing to improve it would be the wrapper.

Here is a few pics of the patch and my beginning burn problem.

Pros: Flavorful wrapper, nice draw, lite spice, decent construction
Cons: uneven burn, flakey ash at 1 inch mark, Not a ton of smoke.

Pre-smoke:

The wrapper was very aeromatic. nice sweetness to it. Some leather and maybe a hint of coffee.

Scent at the foot was not much different than the rest of the stick.

The appearance was a little rough and veiny. Definately not smooth. The wrapper seemd in excellent condition minus a few veins. just little rugged.

The feeling of the stick, not very spongy. Pretty solid. Some lumps but nothing overboard.

The first flavor in pre light was very much like a Puros Indios Presidente. Nice flavor when you licked your lips. Very prominent Sweetness and a little tang.

Pre light draw...spectacular. Vertually perfect.

At first light, I instantly picked up the sweetness and some leather. I also picked up some spice/pepper

Toward the middle of the stick, I got alot of spice/pepper. The smoke is very creamy but not abundant. Burn in noticably uneven and needed fixing twice so far. I have found the need to almost have to relight. I have to take a few puffs to bring the cherry back to workable.

For the most part, Im getting a medium body from the smoke. Still creamy and still has the pepper/spice but it has calmed down a little.

Near band area, the cigar is burning hotter than before. The Draw continues to be superb.

This has a short finish and I find this to be a simple smoke with very simple flavors. I like this smoke as an everyday lunchtime smoke. Its not complex by any means, the construction ws overall decent. The draw was nice all the way through and Im guessing this is somewhere in the 3-5 dollar range.

Pros: taste construction
Cons: burn draw

Scent of Wrapper: Earthy, a little grassy
Scent at Foot: Slight grassy scent
Wrapper: Dark brown color - Thick and gritty.
Feel: Overall, firm feeling with a spongy foot.
Tongue: Slightly spicy
Taste: This cigar was very good with a nice sweetness to it. Alot of leather flavor with a little bit of coffee.
Strength: More of a medium strength cigar in terms of nicotine. Flavor also met the medium category when discussing the body of the cigar.
Feeling: The taste on this cigar surprised me as the other blind cigar was not to my tastes. It was very good, but if you stop puffing on the cigar the draw becomes very light.
Scent of Smoke: A nice mild, sweet tobacco smell.
Heat on Finders and in Mouth: No real heat - but I only smoked it 2/3 of the way.
Draw: An okay draw if you keep puffing on it, but tends to die out quickly.
Finish: Light finish with some leather flavor
Other aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: Flavor maintained the same throughout gradually increasing in flavor. I would recommend this cigar - it is pretty good, but it was rather long. Give me this in a Maduro and I'd probably love it.

Pros: Nice aroma. Good draw.
Cons: Rough wrapper. Burn issues

I really enjoyed the aroma of this wrapper. A hint of chocolate/cocoa and cedar. There is a very large vein towards the end of the cigar which I am a little worried about.

The first third of this cigar seems pretty mild to me. Good flavor though. I am starting to see a burn issue.

I am also tasting some mild sweetness and spice.

I am into the second third of this cigar and the burn issue is getting worse. I may need to touch it up. I am still really enjoying the draw on this one. I am also tasting a leathery taste.

I am finishing this one up and the burn issue is really bothering me. The ash is flaky to the point where my shirt has ash on it. If I didnt stay on top of this cigar, it would have gone out. I did like the flavor, the draw and it ended up being medium in body and strength. Slight change in flavor about 1/3 in.

If the burn issue wasnt there and the ash was more solid I think I would have enjoyed this cigar.

Pros:
Cons: Burn problems

Scent of wrapper: Light straw scent
Scent at foot: Light straw/hay with a hint of sweet tobacco
Wrapper: Dark reddish-caramel color with oiliness in the lower half of the cigar. Has some large veins and seems to be well rolled. There are a few spots along the length of the wrapper.
Feel: Firm from head to foot with a couple of softer spots
Tongue: Dusty with the fine remains from cutting the cap.
Flavor on Draw: Tobacco with an underlying sweetness
Taste: Very light taste of coffee (but only when exhaled through sinuses) in the first 2-3 inches--having quite a few burn problems. The cigar went out and I removed the ash. I then purged and re-lit. At this point the taste of roasted coffee and some spice started to come out. I didn't have any other changes past the re-light.
Strength: Started out very mild. After re-light became medium and turned more to medium-full.
Feeling: I thought I would experience more flavor from this cigar.
Scent of Smoke: A pleasant scent that was not offending
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: I did not pick up any heat.
Draw: The draw on this cigar was really good
Finish: This cigar left a strong taste of roasted coffee in my mouth.
Overall: I think I would have enjoyed this cigar much more if it would not have been for the burn problems. The lack of much taste at the beginning makes me give this cigar a lower rating.

Pros: Great draw
Cons: Ugly, bitter, too young

Pre-smoke
Scent of Wrapper: Leather, earth
Scent at Foot: Leather, earth
Wrapper: Rough, toothy wrapper with several prominent veins and water spots. Distinct ridges on the sides from where it wasn’t properly rotated in the cigar mold (Thanks to Sam for teaching me about that.)
Feel: Rather firm
Tongue: Spicy
Flavor on Draw: Reminded me of loamy soil. Slight tingle on the tip of the tongue.

Smoke

Taste: Bitter, burnt taste with some hints of spice
Flavor Changes: None
Strength: Full

Scent of Smoke: Rather muted tobacco aroma
Draw: Rather free draw that yielded tons of smoke

Finish: Short, harsh
Other Aspects of the Cigar Smoking Experience: Ragged burn, flaky ash

I really can’t say that I enjoyed anything about this cigar except the draw. It was unattractive, harsh, and quite honestly, I couldn’t wait to put it down. To me, the cigar seemed extremely young and could probably benefit from some long-term storage.

Final Rating: 2.5

Smoke
Taste: Bitter, burnt taste with some hints of spice
Flavor Changes: None
Strength: To me I felt it was Medium strength
Scent of Smoke: woody, earthy, soft cedar,
Draw: Draw was excellent

Pros: Nice construction
Cons: Poor wrapper, bad burn, twang from youth!

This cigar has some great potential. The first drawbacks are, poor quality wrapper. The wrapper is veiny and thin. This single leaf provides the majority of flavor and I hate to see one in less then perfect condition.

Prelight is great, aside from the wrapper, the flavors are pretty good. A few sharp notes. But good and a very smooth draw.

On lighting this cigar, put off a lot of smoke very pleasant scent but the flavors are very sharp and twangy. I am guessing from youth.

First third was good but the flavors seemed to work against each other. I think this effect could be lessened with some age. I think this blend has something though.

Second third, still twangy but improving. The cigar is having some burn problems. Still good draw and picking up a bit of spice.

Last third, Got a bit spicy. The smoke is picking up strength and heat. I would really like to try this cigar a few years down the road.

Overall, Not a bad smoke seeing it has such potential. I think a nicer wrapper would make a world of difference with this cigar!!

Pros: interesting flavor
Cons: uneven burn

Flavor was spicy, yet sweet. An interesting combination
I got an uneven burn, which is always a turn-off
Draw was okay- free flowing
Wrapper not holding together throught the entire smoke

Overall good flavored smoke.

Pros: Nice smoke aroma, good draw
Cons: Rugged construction

Scent of wrapper: Light straw scent
Scent at foot: Slightly sweet hay
Wrapper: Dark reddish-brown color Has several large scraggly vein's with some soft spots along the length
Flavor on Draw: Tobacco with slight grassiness
Taste: Slight grassiness that moved to a woodiness, had a hint of spice to it
Strength: Mild in the beginning moving more toward the medium side after the 1st half
Feeling: A decent relaxing smoke
Scent of Smoke: Light woodiness
Heat on Fingers and in Mouth: Very, very little
Draw: Easy draw
Finish: Ended in a fuller flavored smoke, toasty/woodiness, overall a monotone smoke, wouldn't go out of my way to buy it but wouldn't turn it down if given.
Overall: I think with age this would be a much better cigar... the construction leaves a lot to be desired, it was a veiny monster.

Pros: Flavor
Cons: Burn Issues

Scent of Wrapper: Somewhat earthy.

Appearance: Reddish-brown with large veins.

Draw: Easy draw.

Burn: I had a lot of burn issues with this cigar. Burned poorly and uneven throughout.

Strength: Medium-bodied.

Heat on the fingers and in mouth: Remained relatively cool.

This long cigar felt light for its size. I enjoyed the flavor as it picked up some strength. However burn problems plagued this cigar thoughout. It burned rather uneven, requiring numerous touch-ups. I would like to try another one of these to see if it had the same problems.

Overall: 4.5/10.0

Pros: Consistent taste, nice draw
Cons: Uneven burn

Blind review. Double Corona 7.5 x 54

ATMOSPHERE: Smoked outside in the evening paired with fresh Alabama air.

PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: Smelled earthy.

Appearance: Bumpy, light chocolate brown wrapper.

Feel: Light cigar. Nicely packed though just a little dry.

Pre-light draw: Mostly earth taste. Light taste.

SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Light earthy flavor. Very nice smoke from the first puff ot the last.

Strength: Very mild/medium. A little harsh once in awhile.

Feeling: Very light and airy.

Scent of smoke: Earthy, yeah deffinately earthy. My wife liked the smell.

Heat: Very little, next to none.

Draw & Burn: Solid throughout!. No cracks in the wrapper. Good burn (only 2 relights) and some edge repair 2-3 times.

Finish: Nice!

OTHER:
Ash: Nice ash color throughout.

Duration: Smoked until about 1” remaining in roughly 1 hour 25 minutes.

CONCLUSION: A better then average earthy cigar that was ok. I loved the draw and ash. The taste of good for a morning cigar.

FINAL RATING: 7.5 - Best one of this tasting

Pros: Nice barnyard aroma, great plumes of smoke
Cons: lots of burn issues, one dimensional

Size: 7.25 x 50

ATMOSPHERE: Outside on the front porch, mid 70s, rain threatening.

PRE-SMOKE:
Scent: Barnyard aroma

Appearance: Medium brown wrapper, veiny, and mottled.

Feel: rumpled, with a very slight tooth to the wrapper, very firm.

Pre-light draw: Hay, with a bitter note from the wrapper.

SMOKE:
Taste & Flavor: Tobacco and dark wood flavors. Provided good volumes of gray/white smoke. One dimensional overall.

Strength: medium with power building up as time progressed. There was a bit of harshness off and on.

Scent of smoke: woody and earthy.

Heat: Very little, next to none.

Draw & Burn: I had no draw issues, but this smoke would not stay lit. When it was lit, it burned poorly. Tunneling and canoeing throughout. I had my lighter out most of the time.

Finish:Long coating finish.

Duration: Because of the burn issues, I ended up leaving about 2 1/2 inches in the tray. Smoked for about an hour.

CONCLUSION: This cigar could have been a lot better. The wrapper had prominent veins throughout, making it appear rather low quality, detracting from it's score. Then when you factor in the burn issues, the score drops again. The flavors were pretty good, but it was just plain work to try to smoke this cigar.

FINAL RATING: 3.5

Pros: Nice Flavor
Cons: Rough construction, uneven burn

A rough looking wrapper which had a patch and was also rough and bumpy with veins evident. Though had a nice leather scent.
The scent at the foot was musty. Tad under filled.
The prelight draw was also leathery.
The flavors were medium bodied of earthy, leather and some pepper, with a slight burn on back of throat.
The wrapper would not burn even and I had to touch up on multiple occasions.
The finish was dry with a slight pepper and leather.
Very flaky ash, went everywhere.
A nice yard gar but I would assume a bundle brand.

Pros: Nice Draw,
Cons: Not the best construction

Pre-smoke
Scent of Wrapper: slight cedar

Scent at Foot: slight cedar

Wrapper: Rough wrapper with distinct veins and rough leaf edges

Feel: Light in weight, firm when rolled in fingers

Tongue: peppery with slight woody taste

Flavor on Draw: light draw, woody, slight cedar

Smoke
Taste: pronounced woody flavor with slight musty/moldy taste. Had an after taste that was not pleasant, moldy is the best description.

Strength: mild first third, mil
